more racism in League

RUGBY league has been hit with a fresh racism saga with the father of Broncos star Justin Hodges revealing he was verbally attacked while coaching a junior team in Brisbane.
Revelations of Roy Hodges abusers came as Broncos forward Sam Thaiday, a Torres Strait Islander, yesterday called on the ARL Commission to crack down on racist elements in the code.
On a day in which the NRL indefinitely stood down an 18-year-old man for racially abusing Broncos star Ben Barba, Roy Hodges has spoken of his own battle with racism.

Hodges was coaching an under-13s side on Brisbane’s northside last Sunday when he was left stunned after being called a “black bastard” by a male parent from his own team.
The parent is then alleged to have thrown his son’s jumper at Hodges, who subsequently ordered his racial abuser from the ground. Shocked onlookers reported the incident to officials at Hodges’ junior rugby league club, which is now investigating the attack.
While insisting racism is not rife in the code, Hodges Sr warned rugby league’s governors not to be complacent.
“I haven’t spoken about this before but this has got out of hand,” Roy Hodges said last night.
“We should have bans and maybe even fines to sit racists on their backside. I’ve seen too much nonsense on the sidelines and it needs to be cleaned up.
“To see superstars like Ben Barba put down and racially abused is sickening ... it just brings down the good people in rugby league.”

Hodges Sr, who is a coaching volunteer at his junior club, admits he was rattled by the racial spat.
“I was hurt about it, I was humiliated,” he said. “People were watching the incident and the young kids around were upset by the whole ordeal. Young kids don’t need to see and hear those things. The man in question brought his son along to fill in for our team, so I didn’t know him at all.
“His son came off with a foot injury and I didn’t want to put him back on and that’s when his dad went at me.
“He took his son’s jersey off, walked towards me, threw it at me and called me a black bastard.
“The kids and parents were shocked and I told him to leave the venue because it’s not on. His son was very upset about the whole thing.
“This sort of thing should be stamped out across the game. Maybe cracking down will make people think twice about doing it.”

more racism in League what is the world coming to!, after the unfortunate events that has happened in the AFL and many League fans even on talking footy, claimed that their code was clean of racism and only happens in AFL, guess what, it happens in your minor code of League, well done, hypocrites :thumbleft:

Disappointing, especially as Hodges did the right thing protecting the boy from further injury. I sincerely hope the parent is banned from the club by the club, as well as reporting the matter in support of Hodges to the appropriate authorities.

AFLcrap1 is right, Adamj1300, and I missed it. No such claim has been made. The only claim that has been made (and I say this only as such, not that I agree with it) is that the AFL is worse than the NRL on the subject. Unless that is also incorrect in which case I would withdraw it.

This claim has been made MANY times by RD and KE particularly in the thread about Eddie McGuires remarks about Goodes and the incident with the young girl and Goodes - I don't know if AFLCRAPPER started posting prior to then but this remark was made often and in those terms!

ahhh :-k
happy to be shown a post where I said racism never occurs in RL only in the VFL dickhead

what I said
& it is backed up by a multitude of evidence
Is that Racism is far worse in the VFL then RL

this is a cold
hard
fact

every level of the VFL is infested with Covert & sometimes.. overt .. racism
incidents in RL are isolated & infrequent but do occur.
end of

Yes the NRL can and should do more to stomp this sort of shite out. Though it will never go away as long as humans are divided by differing cultural and physical attributes. However as an institution the NRL should be on the front foot and punish those who are caught out.

Unfortunately, the facts and academic literature and theory suggest the AFL has a greater issue with racism. Two of the AFLs most influential and powerful employees, Sam newman and eddie McGuire have made public racist remarks and gotten off with a slap on the wrist...Additionally, and as I've said before, there is a lack of cultural diversity in the AFL. This significant 'lack' limits the AFL, as an entire institution, in understanding and looking positively upon differing cultural and physical attributes.

Newman influential and powerful? King Eliagh, that is a ridiculous and unsustainable remark!

McGuire on the other hand does have influence and power.

But I want to know more about this claim "the facts and academic literature and theory suggest the AFL has a greater issue with racism". What facts? What Academic literature? Who's theory? Yours? Well I think we know where you stand with that so that is not important.

Newman has significant influence and power you twat cracker. Seriously, he's been all over public national media for the past two decades. If you believe this platform does not provide the man in a position of power and influence you are dumber than I first thought.

The facts are the higher frequency of racist issues arising within the AFL. We've listed and discussed them countless times before on this site so I cant be bothered to go listing them for you here.

Some of the theories I'm referring to are cultural diversity, ethnocentrism, multiculturalism and intercultural competence. Again, by linking various sociological theories we learn that when there is increased cultural diversity there is more opportunity for increased mutual understanding across cultures. It's quite obvious really cracker. Try looking them up and doing some learning :)
