AFLcrap1, on this you are incorrect. I can tell you for example that there has been a long history of administrative anarchy with rugby league in Alice Springs. I don't know if Darwin is any better off, and I hope they are for the sake of competition - especially with the numbers at AFL games at TIO Stadium being down.

Rugby League has some work to do in the Northern Territory.

Just moved up to Alice this yr...Aussie rules is king up here but rugby league/soccer and union all have a presence.

Aussie rules has 3 divisions for the seniors..some years there 20 teams, other years up to 30 I'm told. Fluctuates a lot depending on if the outlining communities put a team together. There are 4 league teams and 4 union teams. League is played in winter, union in summer..God help them. All the guys that play league in the winter double up and play union in the summer. Soccer is pretty amateur however there is a small comp.

Union is struggling big time..another club is about to fold..theres talk the entire comp will fold sooner than later.

Either way the situation up here is just a reflection of how much the respective codes are investing up here. The AFL is pumping in mega bucks up here. Just of late the NRL is starting to get the stuff in order..we even had a practice match up here that was well attend.

Thats how it is up here.

Btw someone referred me to the NRL annual report which shows that the NT is almost on par with WA and VIC as far as club player numbers go.

Thats says a lot about the health of league in VIC and WA!

I somehow doubt that report is accurate, Jez. NT rugby league is in better shape than it is in either of those states on club player numbers.

Well all i can do is go by the annual report released by the NRL..look it up makes for some interesting reading.

I too was a little surprised..i thought that the NT would easily have Victoria covered as far as players numbers went. Either way the NRL has a very long way to go in WA, VIC, TAS and WA and to a lesser extent the NT.
