after advertising all summer on tv and radio, more than a kfc or Mcdonalds commercial, begging people to sign up as members, the NRL has now decided that it needs a big jackpot of money to attempt to sign up members :(/

For the first time, NRL Club members will have the opportunity to decide how to spend the winnings from two club membership races, with a prize pool of $400,000.

There will be two Club Member Races based on attracting the most new members from the start of the race to the end of the race.

There will be a total prize pool of $200,000 across each race, consisting of $100,000 in cash and $100,000 in advertising grants.

In the first race, prize money will be offered to the three clubs with the greatest increase in their total membership number by Tuesday 20 May.

Race two will reward the top three clubs with the greatest percentage increase in their total membership number, during the same period.

"We are having two races to ensure that clubs with a larger membership base as well as those with smaller membership numbers can compete," NRL Head of Commercial Mr Paul Kind said.

"We thought that it was important to give our club members a say in how they would like some of their prize pool is spent.

"It’s a great way to get the members excited and hear their thoughts on investment.

"Suggestions might include a member’s party, new club facilities, charity donations and interstate travel rewards."

Isn't that a bit different from the league offering reward as opposed to a private business offering incentives for people to use their service?

Act of desperation by NRL clubs who CAN'T GET SPONSORS!

Sponsors want business, so they do it from the other side which is fine (as per the AFL links the meat puppet put up!). Maybe the NRL should do it that way instead of this bullshit in the OP!

I think you are telling a whopper
I have a few poor misguided Bronco fans as friends & have never ever heard of the Foxtel offer.

So wouldn't surprise me if you have been caught YET AGAIN ...telling a lie.

Again you fail to realise the difference RD - When an independent business offers memberships that is a promotion aimed at increasing their market share by targeting a specific group - when the organisation itself offer a reward for membership of ITS organisation it is trying offer an incentative to change its mind set of ITS supporter base. The AFL is not doing this as doesn't need to the NRL is offering because it NEEDS to! The point is very valid and memberships offered by independent business aren't relevant for the above reason! Sorry RD you fail AGAIN! Not respond by calling me a cockhead or insinuating I need to go back to school - but logic is logic!

Nowhere near the same, goose!! The NRL is doing their stuff themselves. The AFL stuff is being done by the sponsors! If the NRL is going to copy the AFL they should at least get it right!

Unless the sponsors that the NRL have aren't interested in it! :P
