hold on to your chair & get ready to read this for a laugh
NRL top dog David Smith predicts rugby league will become the most played sport in Australia with a reported $200 million being thrown at development of the game over the next four years.
Smith gave a presentation at Darling Harbour in Sydney along with ARLC chairman John Grant, chief operating officer Jim Doyle and head of football Todd Greenberg.
Among the announcements made was the NRL's profit for 2013 - $49.6m - which is up $60m from 2012.
"Wind the clock forward five years and we will be the biggest sporting community in the country," Smith said.
"By that point we will hopefully gone through the current rights deal and see a big uptake in the number of people playing the game and the number of people watching the game and that will add more value to our rights.
"We have significantly increased our investment in the game following the new broadcast rights deal, with 100 per cent of all revenue generated by the media rights deal invested in the game.
"Our results show that rugby league is investing more in the game than ever before and is now truly positioned to enter a period of growth that will make it the strongest and healthiest it has ever been.
The boys from The Grill Team reckon Smith is doing a good job, despite his rocky start.

Yeah right, for the last 15 years the NRL hasn't progressed any where
throw some money around NSW & QLD and watch the NRL become the most popular sport in Australia

$200 million won't cover the whole country! And yet they claim they'll be number 1??
Put at least $1 billion into it, and then we might listen!

They want to double their gate receipts in 5 years, yet haven't moved in crowd sizes in a decade. They'll need massive investment in stadium renovations and upgrades too

So when will they start increasing in crowds Dave? They'll need an increase of around 25% in 4 years. How do you expect them to achieve this exactly when they've stagnated for 10 years?

What happened to the NRL in 2013 was like Collingwood, Hawthorn, Carlton, Essendon, being on the bottom of the table.
When the big teams are on the bottom of the table (Dragons,Eels,Broncos, Tigers) then your bound to have a slight drop in ratings.

1% is slight. 8.5% is huge. They suffered from a fixed schedule which as supposed to increase crowds, but they also dropped

Are you nuts 1% of 120k for example is 1.2k less poeple watching throughout the year.............................your trying to tell me that -1% ratings is what the AFL would get if they had collingwoods, Hawthorn, richmond, Essendon at the foot of the table...................really?
So if the AFL had its powerhouse teams at the foot of the table the AFL tv ratings would only be 1% below par................................fuck me dead someone call a doctor for this clown............. :_<> :_<> :_<>
Whoever i would like to know were you got that 8.5% figure from?
Your own link shows that your are a fucking ******.............................8.5% for Fox, 3.8% for FTA...............................do you need me to send a special teacher around to help you with your learning.......................

well the big 4 clubs didnt do to well Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon & Richmond the traditional big 4 clubs all finished around the middle of the ladder, people are switching over to the AFL because it is a far more exciting product. considering all of the blow outs as well from the poor preforming teams!
league cant get close, NRL fans say it was set up as a tv game from the likes of Paker & Murdoch (channel 9 & Fox) to get people watching the game, but it cant get close. even with all of the country cup, SOO & the club season still cant beat the AFL H&A season

You should remove that Picture of NRL ratings.
Those figures are just for NRL.
Does not include SOO, Tests, All stars game..................and the big one it does not included NZ tv ratings which was over 12m in 2011.
