Oh dear, they are at it again. AFL supporters seem to have a thing against players of colour.

"KANGAROOS star Majak Daw has again fallen victim to racial abuse from a footy fan.

A Hawthorn supporter, who had a young child with him, was thrown out of Aurora Stadium, Launceston, on Friday night after a torrent of complaints from fans.

Witnesses said security pounced on the man, who was wearing a Hawks T-shirt and accompanied by a child aged about five, for his vile jibe during the third quarter of the pre-season game."

Good example to the 5 year old to perpetuate this disgusting behavior.

Well when a club boss can make racist remarks & get away with it ,then why not fans?

No code will ever completely irradiate racism from their supporter groups because its an issue in society.

However, look at the way both codes handle racism:

NRL - entire sections of the NSW SOO crowd racially abused QLD players on social media and then at the ground! What happened to them? NOTHING

AFL - a single fan abuses a player and is evicted from the game. Hawthorn are investigating whether he is a member and if he is he will most likely be banned for life.

Yes there's something the AFL and NRL can do about members of teams but the racism and ignorance in Australia is the responsibility of the government to address.

Catching a few fans is one thing but when the most influential public figure employed by the AFL, eddie macguire, gets off with a few hours of tick box cultural awareness after making perhaps one of the worst public media racist gaffs in australias history...then the organisation isn't really sending much of a msg about racism is it.

Everyone knows Eddie isnt a racist. The AFL public certainly don't think that, and neither should they.

We all know racists are shocking characters and that the AFL should have done more on the eddie front, but on a side note what do members think of racist apologists? I think they should be charged with the same punishment as racists. The ol argument "eddie worked with aboriginal people", or "he had Aboriginal friends" is very tiresome for those who understand what racism is, particularly if they've felt it themselves. These bullshit boltesque lines are throwaway excuses made by the ignorant/too scared to confront the actual issue types.

I have to stick up for the AFL on this one. I have never found them to be a racist organisation! As long as a person has one white parent, regardless of race or creed, you will be invited into the cult with open arms!

NONE of the sporting competitions are racist. AFL, NRL, etc etc. It's all about who handles the issues better when they come up. What happened at Aurora was the correct reaction. Would that happen at an NRL venue? I would say no it wouldn't, and that's the real indicator of who is serious about racism.

Should note that from the story, one of the abusers claimed that Daw came from South Africa. Since when was South Africa on the Red Sea bordering Egypt??

The evidence showing the clubs invited a far greater proportion of indigenous players to their latest draft camp than are currently playing in either the AFL or NRL?
