Great news. A new retractable roof, new bars and cafes in a redeveloped precinct outside the stadium and best of all, the eastern and western boundaries increased to allow for longer straight-hit boundaries in cricket and a more traditional oval shape for AFL.

this will never happen
the VFL will abandon ANZ when their contract ends with the venue ... as they simply can't go close to filling it .. its too big for them & they're too small sport in Sydney for it .... so they'll play all their games at the far smaller SCG
the Thunder will move their games to the Showground to help ruin that venue

ANZ will be .. squared up .....with the end stands brought up to the deadball lines at both ends ... for the sports Sydneysiders care about
namely Rugby League ... & the occasional soccer & yawnion game
they may put a roof on it then .... but the fumblers will never play under it

3 to 4 Swines games a year at about 30K a pop
9 cricket games at about 15K

yeh i aggree with dave here. ANZ stadium can afford to loose AFL and cricket. like dave posted for the actual amount of time the stadium is used in oval format it is a waste for the stadium to stay multipurpose when doing so has created a half ass attempt of a stadium in both rectangular and oval format and also when there is skoda stadium right next door and its size is more than adequate for the AFL into the forseable future and adequate for cricket at the time being.

The stadium would make more money in rectangular mode. any consideration of moving games there atm can be very difficult because the stadium has a bad reputation for poor viewing and atmosphere due to how far away the seats are in current mode, any fan or club members in any code are not keen on games at ANZ due to that. improving viewing for spectators would improve its reputation and ths would make it easier for more NRL clubs to potentially sign up to play home games there, make it easier for blockbuster NRL matches to be moved there, encourage more wallabies games and encourage block buster a-league games too.

Skoda Stadium doesn't have the capacity in case you didn't notice, goose! AFL have pulled big crowds to ANZ - biggest was 72K off the top of my head. It would make just as much money from AFL and cricket as it would from SOO and NRL finals.

fact is

17 of the last 18 VFL games played at ANZ since 2008 .. would have comfortably fitted into the " new" SCG & its capacity of 48,000

the VFL is wasting its time at ANZ
it has simply slipped so far down the list of priorities for Sydneysiders it can no longer go near filling that cities biggest Stadium

like I said
when the contract is up ... they will abandon the venue in favour of the SCG
leaving the venue to be squared up for important sports
