Things nrl do well

Again, to be a bit more positive, things nrl do well thread. I'll start

They ran a fairly successful World Cup and are trying the grow the game internationally. The modification of the rules re eligibility was a good move I feel and a short term fix looking at long term gain.

I think the establishment of an independent commission like the AFL one is also a good move forward.

Fuck me ,you tards are unbelievable.
You go into a big spiel about how great AFL is & then to "APPEAR as fair ,you write 3 lines about NRL & one of them has to mention FUmbleball.
Fuck off & just wank off about fumbles .
You are trying to appear fair ,& failing miseraby

So why are we crediting this with the nrl then?

The thread is what the nrl is doing well.

and that's all Phelpsy did on his thread on "things AFL do well"
so how about trying to add some actual positive input.

Yes, my bad, the thread was about the nrl so yes, I shouldn't have included the wc. Also crapper, I only mentioned one or two things in the AFL thread of the same nature leaving it open for others to ad.

So I invite you again to list and discuss the positive things nrl have done recently.

I think having a team in New Zealand is a good move for the nrl.

I also think the independent commission is good for the nrl.

I think the nrl is working hard to clean the game up and the intervention last origin when one blokes punches another was a good move. You may disappoint the bogans but the nrl will benefit in the long term

You can see that the NRL fans can't add anything positive can they?

so you tried, and cannot think of what the NRL does well?
it is hard to come up with something when you follow such an abortion of a game.

i like what the NRL and channel 9 does. how they place all the spectators on the bottom tier of of the stands in the pathetic little ground they play on, so it looks like the ground is semi full, during a televised game

Anzac day games, started near 40 years before anyone else did.

For the poms. Was officially given a local Derby (Wigan v St Helens. Only two sports did the man give his name to, RL and a horse race, others the world over now use local derbies to hype their games.

Friday night footy in Aus. Sunday night footy in Aus, Monday night footy in Aus, Wednesday night footy in Aus being Panasonic cup/Tooths Cup followed by Origin.

Played games on a Sunday decades before any other sport did in Aus.

First sport in the country to be firstly semi pro then fully pro.

Was the first sport to have indigenous players play in the main comp by decades.

Was the first sport to have an indigenous person as the captain of both his club and National team, decades before any other sport.

Was the first sport in Aus to get permission to have indigenous players leave the country and make a living overseas.

Was the first sport to wear the mighty Green and Gold in representative matches.

RL was also the first sport in Aus to have a full time NZ representative.

Was the first sport in the country to be televised live, was the first sport to have a GF shown live on two competing channels.

RL was the first game in Aus to be shown live in 3d.

RL was the first sport to support the Close the Gap campaign.

First sport in the country to have a sin bin, first to have blood interchange rule years before the others.

Had the first woman in Aus sport to be CEO of a first grade side (Adelaide Rams)

In 1921 approximately 30,000 people watched a women's rugby league game in Sydney. This set a long-standing record for the highest attendance at a women's sporting competition outside the Olympic or Commonwealth games.

Any more?

I have to ask the following because I suspect at least some of these claims are not right;

1. When was the first thugby league game on ANZAC Day?
2. When did this local Derby reference to Wigan and St Helens first appear?
3. When did thugby league first play on Friday night? (The others I acknowledge as probably right, and not neccessarily a good thing)
4. When did thugby league first play on a Sunday?
5. When did thugby league became semi pro and then fully pro?
6. When did the first indigenous Australian play elite level thugby league and who was it?
7. Who was the first first indigenous player to captain his elite level team? (I'll leave the rep one alone for obvious reasons)
8. When did thugby league "get permission" to allow an indigenous player to travel overseas?
9. What was the first thugby league game televised live, and what was the first grand final televised live?
10. When did thugby league introduce the sin bin?

I think that's great parra all the things you list... Although the thread is about what the nrl do well not sports firsts. You could say the nrl have been innovative in areas of supporting aboriginals in playing the game. Also innovative in televising the game using different nights. And whilst bit nrl, the glaringly obvious thing that is done well is state of origin, this stands head and shoulders above everything else.

Quite right. It's about what the nrl is doing well now.
The nrl gets good ratings.
Has good media promotion.
Is able to side step negative publicity well.
Good at making empty stadia look half full.
Good at convincing people that their attendance figures are real.
Good at convincing RU people that they should play rl.
Good at promoting Pacific Islanders as Aussie battlers.
Good at following the success and ideas of other codes.
