Demeaning or entertaining: do cheerleaders still have a place in the NRL?
REPORTS this week suggest the Bulldogs and Raiders are considering axing their cheer squads for the 2014 season.

Will this be a blow to the NRL's match day entertainment or a victory for those who believe cheerleading sends the wrong message to women?


OK, sure, the cheerleaders at NRL games aren't exactly putting on the performances we've seen at NFL games or have come to expect courtesy of movies like Bring It On, but they have a big role to play in the game.

Through Big League's Cheerleader of the Year competition we've come to learn these women are passionate football fans who want to be part of the game and contribute to its greatness.

How can they do that? They use their athletic talents - which most of us could only dream of possessing - and become part of a club, usually one they've idolised since they were children, and part of the whole rugby league experience.

Cheap stunts that are designed to attract cheap bucks and for no other reason.

league has shit crowds, only a few turn up due to low numbers following. if you turned on the tv to a game that was being televised with the eels playing, you'd see your, your fellow bumsniffer mate ParraEelsNRL in the crowd
