The lions posted a loss for the 2013 season - although coming on the back of a 2.5m loss in 2012 some may argue it an improvement - however there is a lot of work to be done and tough times ahead until they start breaking even. Hopefully in 2014.
Lions cap tough year with $1.57m loss

The appointment of Justin Leppitsch as senior coach is a positive for the Lions, says chairman Bob Sharpless
THE BRISBANE Lions have taken another blow in a tumultuous year, recording a net operating loss of more than $1.5 million.
Despite the heavy hit of $ 1,574,762 to the club's bottom line, the results for the financial year ending October 31 are an improvement of close to $1 million on the previous year.
The club's football department expenditure went up by $100,000 to $17.3 million.
Lions chairman Bob Sharpless said the club was two years into a five-year plan aimed at delivering "long-term sustainable earnings and on-field success".
He said the improved financial position, matched with another 10-win season, was reason for optimism.
Sharpless said the appointment of Justin Leppitsch as senior coach, Peter Schwab as head of coaching and development, and Simon Black as an assistant coach, were all significant steps.
Following the sacking of Michael Voss as coach in August, the Lions were tipped upside down with a board upheaval that resulted in the appointment of Sharpless to replace Angus Johnson, and the addition of Leigh Matthews.
Sharpless said the club still had issues to resolve.
"Issues around the club's playing guernsey, replacing the logo with the Fitzroy and triple-premiership lion as soon as is reasonably practicable, and granting life members the same rights and privileges as full members, will both be addressed at the Annual General Meeting on December 18," Sharpless told lions.com.au.

hopefully think will start getting better for the Lions financially, after finishing upgrading their social & paying out several contracts, with a few players leaving to return their home state & the Sacking of Voss

The Lions did have some board room issues on top of that as well. Stability is the X factor in a club's finances and should never be underestimated or ignored.

So how much money did the Canberra Raiders Football club make this year? Or last year or the last ten yrs - thats right folks every year they get 3 mil hand out from the parent hotel group - the Raiders ALWAYS run at a loss! Be about 18 mil easy over the same 6 yrs! Bit of the ol pot calling the kettle eh RD - by the way
2013 - 1.5
2012 - 2.5
2011 - 1.855
2010 - 2.476
2009 - 0.603k
2008 - 2.2 mil
Is approx 11 mil last time I looked not 16 mil but obviously have to factor in RD inflation!

Raiders
The Raiders club has the support of a string of leagues clubs in the ACT and Queanbeyan housing more than 800 poker machines. The powerhouse of the group is the Queanbeyan Leagues Club, which has been instrumental in forming a property trust with more than $30 million worth of assets. The club has been able to fund the trust and retain a healthy balance sheet of its own. Profits from this trust can be distributed to the football club. This should see the Raiders football team continue to prosper in the coming years even though it is unsure how much debt is attached to the property portfolio.
The Raiders football team has generated around $12-$13 million of revenue in recent years, making it one of the poorest-performing in the competition. This effectively means the football club is uneconomic and demands several million dollars from the leagues club and property trust for support each year. With no competition for funds in the nation's capital, this should stand the football club in good stead for some years to come.

I have already explained this to you in the past but your tooooo stupid to understand - the Canberra Raiders football club is its OWN legal identity - The Canberra Raiders sports club LTD is a separate group that DONATES money to the football club AS they are separate LEGAL IDENTITIES! The football club is gifted money each year to balance the books AS IT RUNS AT A LOSS! Otherwise they would announce a profit - As they ARE NOT PUBLIC COMPANIES the football club DOES NOT put out annual reports! You are TOOOOOO STUPID for words - again the Lions losses over 6 yrs is 11 million - now admit you lied about 16 million!

Dave is adding raw figures when he should be ignoring them as individual numbers. It's an ongoing number that changes.
He's got no idea and makes it up as he goes!

Again you just show your absolute ignorance - they are SEPARATE LEGAL IDENTITIES - the football club makes no money it losses money because it does not have enough revenue from crowds, merchandising, sponsorship etc - the hotel group makes money from its CORE business eg poker machines and pouring beers etc. the hotel group gifts money to the football club to bring it back to square - as an entire entity the hotel group and the football club make money. They also have a trust set up that pays an annual amount to the football club but as you have such difficulty grasping such a simple concept I won't be able to explain it to you. The AFL clubs are set up differently as they are non for profit public entities. They show the hotels as THEIR assets and not separate legal identities, therefore the clubs profits goes to the total club revenue and is not GIFTED to the football club! So yes the hotel group makes money but the football club runs at a loss EVERY year. Now go away and get your mum to explain it to you!
