CARLTON has made a million-dollar turnaround on the back of hiring coach Michael Malthouse last season.
The Blues will today announce car manufacturer Hyundai will extend its joint major sponsorship for another four years on the day the club unveils superstar recruit Dale Thomas at Visy Park.
The club has aggressively set its sights on a top-four finish after last season taking Essendon's spot and making it to the second week of finals.
"We don't plan to go backwards, put it that way," chief executive Greg Swann said.
Carlton is expected to post a $300,000 profit for the year, turning the tables on a $750,000 loss when it paid out ex-coach Brett Ratten last year.
The move to secure Michael Malthouse as coach has reaped a major windfall in sponsorship dollars, with club figures showing it recorded a 380 per cent spike in media brand exposure since Malthouse's arrival.
The increase helped clinch the Hyundai extension and again puts the Blues in a stronger financial position to help support its growing on-field expectations for next season.
Swann hailed the Hyundai extension as a major coup in a tough financial market that has left several clubs, including Melbourne and St Kilda, still without major sponsors.
The Blues were believed to be in more than $8 million debt as recently as 2010, but are on track to be debt free in coming years.
Swann said the Blues would again target a deep September finish next season after an aggressive trade period luring thee established senior players including marquee man Thomas.
"Our last month of the season was pretty good, it was our best month with wins against the Tigers and we beat Port at Port," Swann said.
"With 'Daisy' and Andrejs Everitt and young Sam Docherty coming in, we think we have improved our list.
"If you can have a little bit of luck with injuries and get on a bit of a roll, you can make finals and obviously from there who knows what's going to happen."

this fuckstick doesn't even read the articles he posts
this bit needs inspection
The Blues were believed to be in more than $8 million debt as recently as 2010.
so
even based on a healthy profit in 2011 ... & the 750K loss in 2012
when you factor in compounding interest on the debt at around %10
the meagre & pathetic 300K they made this year .... would still have seen their 8 million debt in 2010.. grow to about 9 Million in 2013
so in fact they're further in debt
the games in good shape is it cockhead

sure it is
sure

Carlton's debt comes from the new stand that they built in the late 90s at their home ground of princess park as well as a knocking one of their old stands down, to build a high performance center all up totaling 67 million dollars, as well as around another million dollar in fines for salary cap breaches.
their debt comes from spending money on up grading facilities. not like many NRL clubs, because have no fans

Here I will help you.
Maybe they need a COLA,
BRISBANE Lions legend Leigh Matthews has given an insight into the perilous off-field position in which his club now finds itself.
In a call to arms to Brisbane supporters, Matthews sent two tweets late on Saturday afternoon urging fans to become Lions members.
In what is a far cry from the club's glory days of 2001-03 when Matthews steered the club to three straight premierships, Brisbane is now battling in a non-AFL market, with crowds at Gabba home matches having fallen as the club struggles for on-field success.
"They say knowledge is power but knowledge of Lions financial position is scary," Matthews said in one tweet.
"We desperately need (an) increase in membership. Sign up please."

Were BELIEVED to be $8 million in debt, Dave, you fricking goose!! And the profit of 300K would go to the debt retirement because the interest HAS ALREADY BEEN PAID!! It's already been taken into account in the fricken books!!
For God's sakes stop talking about something you know SFA about!!

they need to be doing better then 300K in profits when they're 8 million plus in debt wanker
otherwise the debt grows because that sized profit doesn't cover the interest on that sized debt
It aint rocket science you fumbling twats
