A little Q & A

60k out there to watch easts v souths in the rl in syd last night. In light of this I'm pretty sure the swannies have got nowhere near as many this season.

Question. Why have the swannies, the AFL premiers, one of only 2 AFL teams in syd, playing a sport which is umpteen times better to watch live than on tv, a team who AFL supporters on this site have inaccurately lauded as " the biggest club in sydney", why have they come nowhere near as large a crowd as rl this season?

Why?....howcome guys?

Drac your take on this will really fit ur avatar so I welcome your thoughts matey :)

Hmm two of the biggest nRL clubs in Sydney playing off for the minor premiership. A Swans v big interstate team playing for 1st spot would get over 60k at ANZ. Two big Melbourne clubs playing for the minor premiership would sell out the MCG. ;)

Are you really that stupid?

2 Sydney nRL teams played, doubling the potential crowd size. The fact the swans average over 30k which is the highest for any sydney sport team, when facing interstate teams almost every game is astounding

What?

Souths are a big club, but no where near as big as made out, they have been shit for 2 generations. Easts, well they have never been a great supported club since I can remember, 50 years ago, yes, not now though.

The 5 big supported clubs in Sydney are Parra, Dogs, Tigpies, Dragons and Souths. 3 of those missed the finals.

King, what did u think of the 94,560 people at the G yesterday to see one of the best games in many years.

Oh & 3 out of 4 upsets to start the finals. Pretty lopsided comp the AFL hey King! hahahaha

I don't know either way, but that doesn't mean they aren't for sure. You show us that he's wrong! Come on!

60k is a great crowd, you should be proud. I did find it adorable that it was the biggest H&A match crowd in nRL history though. For reference we've had 17 bigger H&A match crowds this year alone. Just sayin'.

But I think you're getting ahead of yourselves trying to dismiss the Swans for some reason. Let's not forget that the Swans had the highest average crowd of all clubs in Sydney across all codes this year for the 19th year in a row. The Swans' biggest ever H&A crowd is over 10k bigger than the biggest crowd in nRL history, and unlik the Rabbits and Roosters they achieved that against an interstate side. With their stadium being redeveloped they still managed to increase their average by 4k on last year. Swans fans hate ANZ, and it will be interesting to see if the AFL renews their agreement with the stadium post 2016 when the current one expires.

By way of comparison the Storm have never had a higher average attendance than any of the Victorian AFL sides. Not even the bulldogs or Norf. Their biggest ever H&A crowd is 25k. This after an unparallelled period of success as well. Will be interesting to see how they go when the 'big 3' retire. They've not gone three years without a GF or Premiership since 2004.
