Sure by Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth standards it is just acceptable but by Sydney Standards with the nearest club in the NRL in the mid 20's it is far and away ontop! Then you add in the largest home game crowd average of 25k for CLUB football (3k ahead of Canterbury and 5k ahead of the Roosters) A national TV average of 500k and the largest sponsorship and you have the biggest club in Sydney an AFL Club.

They certainly have a large committed following which is impressive for as you say, nrl heartland. AFL would be pleased indeed

Maybe the biggest NRL club in Sydney is ur A hole but facts don't lie! They have a bigger national TV audience, more members and higher average crowds - can't see QBE being disappointed any time soon, they in combination with VW make them the most sponsored! So RD I know this is very painful and facts that really gets under your skin but it's now time to man up! Be brave and admitt The SYDNEY SWANS the BIGGEST CLUB in SYDNEY!

I think they do very well though. Agree with fta ratings however need to factor in pay but still could be better. I think tv ratings is the last thing the AFL need to improve. Crowds are good, particularly compared to nrl crowds in Sydney, membership high, and decent media coverage. We must remember Sydney has developed a foothold in a market where once AFL blearily rated a mention

Looking at Fox and FTA their average this year is 500k, now what RD won't do is half that figure for RL teams (as it doesn't support his cause) realistically you should and I admitt that I haven't. But TV figures are only good if they translate into $$$$$ - this is where crowds, membership and sponsorship comes in! You don't get the crowds without a good entertaining game of football! (Which the Swans do!) - your crowd don't become members unless they feel they want to be part of a club with great culture and a desire to win and - your sponsor doesn't give you the money unless those other factors are in place - TV audience while good for the sponsor at high levels is not the determining factor otherwise as RD points out Penrith would have a major sponsor and not be up financial shit creek! QBE and VW stick with the Swans because it's a club they can rely on with good crowds. good membership and reasonable NATIONAL TV audience! =D> [-o< =D> [-o< =D>
