The upcoming State of Origin decider is officially the most anticipated match in the history of the interstate series, with less than 1000 tickets left on sale to the public.

With capacity at ANZ Stadium increased to 84,000 for Origin III, as well as the upcoming Wallabies-Lions rugby Test and Manchester United's clash with the A-League All Stars, the crowd is expected to be the biggest for a series decider. After also breaking the record for an opening match attendance at ANZ Stadium, the crowds for this year's series will also be the biggest in Origin history.

Origin I at ANZ Stadium drew a crowd of 80,380, while 51,690 watched at Suncorp Stadium last Wednesday night as Queensland levelled the series with a 26-6 win.

About 70,000 tickets had been sold for Origin III before that but with series down to a decider, it is a virtual sell-out.

NRL officials stress there are still seats available but they are expected to be snapped up early this week and once they are, it will be the furthest out from an Origin that ANZ Stadium has posted the ''house full'' sign.

''It is the first time time we have had crowds of more than 80,000 at both games in Sydney,'' NRL head of commercial operations Paul Kind said.

Next Saturday night's rugby union Test between the Wallabies and Lions and Manchester United-All Stars game on July 20 also sold out, while 80,523 last month watched the Socceroos qualify for the World Cup.

Live sites will be established at Sydney Olympic Park for the three upcoming events to enable those without tickets to enjoy the festivities.

''It's terrific for Sydney that we are about to host a series of sporting events that will capture the imagination of sports fans around the world,'' ANZ Stadium chief executive Daryl Kerry said.

Meanwhile we'll continue to see SANFL like crowds in the nRL. Ironically the nRL is meaningless when the real meaningless rep games of SoO are being played!

really makes a mockery of the nrl! having a few celebrity fans back in the day, eg the packer empire got it on TV, its nothing more than a state comp, getting crowds the size of the SANFL & WAFL

Yep, I'll watch it for sure too. The nrl do make the most of the two state rivalry and do it very well.

Ahh no, 113m Aussies watched nRL, 10m less than the AFL. We have sources, you have fuck all like a typical minda. Interesting to see you quickly try and recover with TV ratings. You are aware that the nRL struggles badly during origin. People just aren't passionate enough about the nRL during this time. That is a fact. Deal with it.

It's going to be quite funny when the Rugby Union has a bigger crowd than SOO.
