NORTHERN beaches junior league coaches have slammed misbehaving NRL players for their negative impact on young players.

Avalon Bulldogs under-8s coach Glen Farrell called for harsher penalties for NRL stars who bring the game into disrepute.

"It's ongoing disgraceful behaviour that can't be tolerated any longer," Mr Farrell said.

The comments come after NSW Origin player Blake Ferguson was charged on Monday with the indecent assault of a woman and Souths player George Burgess was charged with wilful damage of a car.

After hearing the news bout players this week, Mr Farrell's 13-year-old son told him: "If this keeps happening I'm going to play rugby union."

Forestville Ferrets under-11s coach Shannon Nevin said misbehaving NRL players weren't a true representation of rugby league culture, but could still put parents off keeping their children in the sport.

"A lot of the diehard people (parents) roll their eyes and say: 'Not again','' Mr Nevin said.

"It's a bigger problem with the newer parents. They're new to the sport and if it keeps on happening as often as it does… they sort of relate it to their kids and what they could turn into."

Mona Vale Raiders under-14s coach Terry Binding said offending NRL players made it tougher to instil positive values among junior players, considering how much influence they had on them.

"It makes it difficult when the likes of these so-called stars are putting themselves out there," he said.`It doesn't sit well with younger people.''
