Racism off the field NRL vs AFL

Post by King-Eliagh »

Lordy, what happened with Goodes tonight and those feral southerner piesfans?

Not sure what the deal is yet but lets all have a nice frank open discussion about racism off the field in both codes - NRL/AFL.

Now I know there's been a fair share of racist gits in the crowds of NRL games but in my educated opinion the AFL crowds take the cake and... if the cake is not white, they then make nasty remarks about its colour. [-X [-X [-X

Good thing the AFL has started to take action but is the action the AFL is taking enough to stop racist after racist entering the stadiums and hurling vile abuse? I dont know.

At the moment it's not proven. But by the looks of it, it was a young stupid teenage girl at tonight's game. She has been shamed completely on national TV and was escorted off the ground in tears. Goodes was clearly shaken as well after a BOG game and i hope this in no way affects him long term. There was no winners from what happened tonight and I would be worried for the girl from a mental health point of view. Be careful what you say please.

I have little sympathy for those who perpetuate this country's national and all too often silenced shame. And neither should others. If this woman or girl made racist remarks, she deserves to live with it and be shamed on a national level.

I personally was gutted to see racism last night at the footy on public display. Was very upset for Goodsey. There should be no place for that rubbish in any sport. Good to see Eddie and Collingwood act swiftly. Now awaiting on the AFL's response.

Yes agree, racism has no place anywhere in our society. What was encouraging is that a stand was taken, the young girl was booed out of the stadium, and the actions universely condemed. I'm glad we too can unite on this forum and this topic and roundly condem these actions. With this week being the week in AFL where we celebrate the indigenous people of this country and their role in AFL it is a timely reminder that we, as a nation, have some way to go. I hope this has been a learning curve for the young lass, that she is not too scared but get national shame and is able to see the wrongs of her ways. I would hate to see her hanging from a rope over this, as would anyone, and hope she can grow from this experience.

I think the best thing to come of this whole sorry episode is the way Adam Goodes showed he really is one of the most inspiring people of our society, he could easily have condemned this girl - instead he displayed both understanding and empathy for her - if only most of us would do the same. I have to admit it has been a recent issue - hopefully we can bring it out in the open and learn from it.

Yes I'm very interested in our society learning more about what racism actually is. Like us all learning about racist shopkeepers out there who kick people out of their shops because of high crime rates which have occurred via the ultimate and despicable crimes carried out during this county's colonisation...yes, I'm interested in all those swines out there learning more about what racism is from the disgraces carried out in the AFL.
