ARLC attempts to get fans to go to games

RUGBY league of the future will be like going to a grand final every round, in the vision of new NRL CEO David Smith.
A $1 million kick competition for fans at every game, children's jumping castles and bands on centre stage at half-time are some of Mr Smith's ideas to transform the sport.
Instead of the present atmosphere of empty seats, cheerleaders and lacklustre ground entertainment, Mr Smith wants to deliver the levels of excitement whipped up each weekend by the US National Basketball Association."Every time someone watched a game on television we want them to be wishing they could actually be at the ground," Mr Smith said, outlining for the first time his vision for the sport that began as a working man's game.

So lets look at some of his suggestions:
- Rides
- jumping castles
- bands
- video packages
- great moments of the past echoing through the stadium
- something to engage everyone from start to finish, so you leave talking about your plans for the next game.
How about starting with a decent spectacle!

The suns have a good match day experience , the put on bands after the game sometimes and have an oval for kick to kick. It's not too bad but yeah I have always argued that the footy should be enough. Problem I see at the suns is that a lot of seats are reserved seating or higher priced seating ... So for general admission most people stand up back ... Which is quite a good view on the wing but looks poor on tv. But I digress lol. At least they are trying something I guess and it does highlight that bums on seats is a major and important goal for the nrl. I think that glitzy approach may work in Sydney but not sure true sports lovers are going to go for it... Do they need it for Brisbane where crowds are Reasobable ?? The rest of the country where AFL dominates I can't see it working as distracts from the footy I think. Anyway points for trying I guess as they need to so something .

Only boring sports need shit like this to get people to the game in its heartland. What a fail of a league the nRL is.

That's their colours Dave. Not sure why the suns getting crowds of 12 to 13 thousand upsets you ? Not sure why if they got sell out crowds every week , that it would upset you ? What I do notice is that a lot there last night had the clubs merchandise on , which indicates a solid supporter base who are buying this stuff. One thing you would like is at metricon you do get that whole feel you talked about if walking to the game. Cause you can't park there a lot park away outside a zone to avoid fines ... And you walk along in groups toward the game ... It's quite good as mentioned in another post re suburban grounds.

they don't ....
last nights attendance was a joke ..... a couple of thousand tops in that entire big stand which goes 75% around the ground
bays & bays of empty seats
yet they post a crowd saying the joint was nearly half full
when will the fudging cease

I think if the AFL was going to fudge that would have said more than 12 000. But if that's your opinion then you're welcome to it I guess. I do agree that the ground can look empty on tv and I think the suns should look at this . The standing room around the whole ground, most undercover, sees a lot of people stating there to watch the game. They also have a few large screen tv screens where you can watch the game . I reckon they should move to limit the standing room in low crowd games (under 15000) and push people to the seats. Problem is standing room area is a prime spilt to watch the game. I was thinking it looked low last night too but having been to the ground the week before I realized many stand out if sight .

I just think they should post the actual crowd for once .....

The Melbourne Storm CEO and plenty of posters on the LU crowd board agree. They're sick of the nRL's crowd fudging, especially at the Titans.
