RIP any integrity this sport held............

even I am astounded ... shocked ... at the leniency shown by the VFL in the Adelaide Budgies Salary cap rorting scandal
its sickening

I knew they'd go soft
but this is gob smacking

they effectively thrashed them with a feather & gave them a pat on the bum & one of these .. .. as they left the hearing

pidgeons CEO .... banned 6 Months
Storm CEO .... banned for life & lucky not to be behind bars for fraud.

seagulls club fined 300K
Storm .... fined 1.5 Million

sparrows ... no punishment at all for season 2013 8-[
Storm... 2 minor premierships stripped .... 2 premierships stripped .... 8 quality players forceably released .... & forced to play the entire 2010 season for no points

if the VFL thinks a few draft picks lost for 2014 & a player complicet in the rort ... given a few weeks suspension .. is gunna save their integrity
they are delusional

WHAT A DOUCHE!

Storm, 1.7 million dollar breach involving multiple players and multiple years. In fact players were given double contracts in a desperate attempt to evade detection!!! [-X [-X In fact they never should have won the 2009 GF because the NRL were too slow investigating the issue and let them win during the investigation!

Crows, 200k breach involving a single player. Hit with draft sanctions, fine of 300k for the club, 50k for the CEO, 6 month ban for both.

A fair comparison is the Warriors who breached their cap by 1 million and only face a two game loss and 430k fine.

What an absolute farce the NRL is!!!

Raid is right, X! The Crows were slapped on the hand. If the AFL had an integrity this is what SHOULD have happened!

1. Tippett should be banned for life.
2. Trigg should be banned for life.
3. The Crows should not be in the draft next time around at least and should be playing at least half the season for no premiership points!

Weak as piss, the AFL. Yes, the Storm copped it worse because the breach was bigger, but not THAT much bigger!

The Storm were by far the worst salary cap cheaters in Australian sporting history and deserved their heavy punishment [-X [-X Unfortunately it was ineffective as theyve continued to dominate the nRL.

It farcical to compare them to the Crows who were 200k over the cap. In comparison the Warriors were 5 times this far over, and we have a bigger salary cap! Yet they only copped 430k fine!

NRL, what a bunch of pussies

The Crows also did something that the Storm or the Warriors never did! They tied a player into a contract that breached the draft conditions! It's not just about the salary cap, you freaking dummy!

Yes, im aware of that. That is why Tippett and the CEo copped a ban and fine as well. Can you show where the NRL applied similar penalties to the Warriors?

yeah and they copped 2 season of salary cap sanctions!

Plus a hefty fine compared to the salary cap cheating, and fines and bans for individuals. Far harsher than most NRL penalties. The only exception is the storm who cheated to a level never seen in Australia before. [-(

AFL stars exploit loophole to avoid drug strikes
Michael Warner Herald Sun December 01, 2012 12:00AM

AFL players are avoiding drug strikes by exploiting a loophole in the game's illicit drugs policy.

The Herald Sun can reveal there has been a spike in players self-reporting the use of drugs to AFL medical directors Dr Peter Harcourt and Dr Harry Unglik.

The concern is restricted to a small number of players, most from the same club.

By self-reporting, players avoid registering a positive drug test and a strike against their name.

Self-reporting is a feature of the AFL's three-strikes illicit drugs policy and occurs when a player wishes to admit having used drugs.

Club chiefs say excuses used include "I have had my drink spiked" and "I've accidentally had drugs".

Some players have self-reported more than once, raising concerns about a deliberate abuse of
AFL players are regularly tested for illicit drugs and can be tested at any time, not just on match days.

There was a surge in self-reports this year, leading to suspicions players were abusing the system.

The revelation comes amid calls for a tightening of the illicit drugs policy and concern from clubs about a growing illegal drug culture.

The Herald Sun understands the AFL and AFLPA are considering limiting the number of allowable self-reporting incidents to one per player.

An increase in the number of off-season hair tests is also being considered.

The league said last night: "The AFL and its medical directors have made recommendations to the AFLPA in relation to aspects of the illicit drugs policy."

AFL Players' Association general manager of player relations Ian Prendergast said the union was in continuing talks with the AFL and its medicos about improving illicit drugs policy.

"If there are issues that need to be addressed to ensure that the policy not only helps players at risk but also acts as a strong deterrent, I'm confident we can address those issues through our discussion with the AFL medicos," Mr Prendergast said.

"However, to say the policy is the problem, and not the factors leading players to engage in risky behaviour, is short-sighted.

"This is an issue within our community that we acknowledge and understand will inevitably impact on our members in some way.

"If clubs have concerns about drug use among their players, they can approach the AFL medicos for target testing of those players and to adopt strategies to deal with such concerns ."

The concern is restricted to a small number of players, most from the same club.
The loophole has been used by a few players of essentially one club. It has been identified as an issue and will be closed.

What the issue highlights for me is that the policy works tremendously well and has even forced some players to seek help by reporting themselves. If that the worst they do theyve definately got this right. =D>
