Whilst the AFL and GWS were keen to see him request an early exit from his contract when it was abundantly clear he was useless on the football field, the NRL and Parramatta on the other hand were desperate to get him back playing rugby league. How embarrassing has this turned out to be for the NRL and Parramatta. Real Rugby it is for Izzy.

It has also been revealed that NRL interim chief executive Shane Mattiske had met representatives of Folau before his decision to quit AFL and Mattiske has since been helping the Eels to address salary cap issues. However, the 23-year-old former Test and Origin star stunned Parramatta coach Ricky Stuart and other Eels officials on Friday when his management told them he had decided to accept a bigger offer in rugby union, believed to be a wealthy French club.

''We are very focused on getting this deal done with the players' association and that is very important to us, and we are also very keen to see a player like Israel Folau come back,'' Mattiske said.

The worst thing Parra could have done was sign this greedy idiot up on that money, a bloke like him doesn't grind out and win you games, he is a finisher only. We have a few of them already, we need the pigs up front more than anything.

Might be able to sign that Pom Front rower Gareth Hock now.

What was claimed to be a victory for the NRL and kick in the teeth for the AFL has now made the NRL look very stupid!

A MONTH ago Israel Folau quit AFL because he wanted to play rugby league with the Parramatta Eels and he said money wasn't his motivation.

Last night Folau turned his back on the Eels to take up an offer to play rugby union overseas where he is expected to earn double the money he could get playing NRL.

Parramatta were in a state of shock and disappointment last night after Folau met with the club's recruitment boss Peter Nolan and informed him that he wouldn't be playing for the Eels next season.

Parramatta boss Ken Edwards was clearly upset at Folau's backflip, especially given the player's initial reasons for wanting to return to rugby league."We made him an unconditional, fully-compliant offer that he said no to," Edwards said. "Presumably he has had a much bigger financial offer from rugby. We are disappointed.

"We did everything we could to give him everything he wanted.

Well, quote me where I have lorded him and went on that he is the saviour of the Parramatta eels, not quotes from others.

If he comes to Parra for decent money in 2014, good stuff, but fucked if we should kill the team on the pitch for 1 back that thinks the world owes him a living.

We have a cap of $5 million, why in the hell would we pay $3 million (was reported) for a winger over so many years? Hell, that money is up there with Cooper Cronk, Thurston and so on, Folau aint anywhere near those player nor does he play in their key positions that make the team work.

Thank you ARLC, I wanted him at Parra (when it was reported at around $300k a season, still too much imo) but you have blocked it, thank god you did because as a follower of Parramatta, I have seen my club do some dumb things over the years, but paying a winger $3 million for 3 or 4 seasons is ridiculous, if Parramatta can't look after themselves or even pretend they know what they're doing, I'd love to see the ARLC go right over the club and actually cut the rest of the dead wood out. The joint has been run like shit for near 30 years now. This non signing would've been the icing on the cake esp at that stupid price.

Parra i totally agree, this guy is only driven by money. Parra offered this guy 1million which includes 3party endorsements to play on the wing, thank god we didn't waste that sort of coin on him and now can chase some good forwards which we are desperate for.

go read the threads in LU .... 80% of Parramatta fans never believed it was a " good thing " to sign him ... even when it was thought he'd be on a pittance
& are quite relieved he said no to 600K plus

I couldn't give a cr@p either way .... as I said , the NRL didn't suffer without him even with him there & quite visual in western sydney in another code & they certainly won't with him out of sight .. 12K miles away in France , but the Midgets definetly STILL WILL... they will have a massive hang over from this for years ... they & the ARU are the big losers here
