both have 2 sides ...
Sydney FC are averaging a home crowd of 26k
Compare that to the Swines who averaged 24k home attendance, and only about 15k members that actually live in Sydney, IN A PREMIERSHIP YEAR!
they can barely get 50K people to watch them on TV .. & their support has fallen for the last 4 years despite being quite succesful
on top of this ... wanderers are making the midgets look like utter gronks
higher crowd average (12K) & 3 wins already in 7 games
so thats 26 & 12 for the roundball boys ... 19K average
&
24 & 5 for the singletball lads ... 14.5K
& thirdly
when you consider the VFL have probably spent 600 Million on the Swines , midgets & the game in NSW over the last 30 years , rigging their draw ... allowing these sides to be artifically better on field by spending more then the rest
& FFA .. about 6million on soccer in Sydney fullstop
its obvious to all & sundry that Soccer is now miles ahead of this silly little oddity from across the murray in our nations largest city

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sydney_Swans
As the only AFL club in Sydney prior to the 2012 entry of Greater Western Sydney, the Swans have a large population base to draw on. In 2006, following the first premiership in 72 years, the club achieved a record membership and the biggest since 1999. There is still a healthy Melbourne following for the Swans, particularly a revival in the late 1990s.
Almost 10,000 Swans members are (South) Melbourne based[citation needed] and the club experiences good support when the team plays in Melbourne and many also make the long trip to Sydney for home games as well. The club recently celebrated in 2007 their 25th anniversary since relocating from South Melbourne, with parties hosted both in Sydney and their former home.
Some famous fans include movie star Nicole Kidman,[18] singers Shannon Noll,[19] Delta Goodrem, Australian band Human Nature, Australian duo The Presets, radio personalities Peter Stubbs and Adam Spencer, television personality Ian "Dicko" Dickson,[19] media personalities Sandra Sully,[19] Neil Cordy and John Mangos, former cricket legend Glenn McGrath, television presenter Tom Williams, Dallas Cowboys punter Mat McBriar, sports journalist Tony Squires and television actress Cornelia Frances, amongst others.
there was over 10K in Melbourne alone 5 years ago
I remember an article somwhere saying another 5K came from the Riverina
that leaves about 15K in Sydney
the swines are a bit coy about the actual numbers from interstate ..... mainly due to embarrasment that only around half their members live in Sydney
thank you linesmen .. thank you ball boys

1) 'almost 10k' =/= 'about 15k'
2)

3) Sydney loves soccer, with WS literally the biggest heartland in Australia that soccer has. and the wanderers are just averaging a couple of thousand more than the Giants. A team that apparently no one wants, that barely won a game this year, playing a sport that's apparently no one cares about. lol, congrats =D>
4) FC recruiting Del Piero was a masterstroke, credit where it's due. I made the trip up for the Jets game, and had a blast. But their crowds are dropping off pretty quickly due to their awful performances. If they don't improve soon they'll finish with an average below 20k. Still a massive increase, but if they'd combined Del Piero with wins it could have been anything.
5) Why are you focusing on the AFL? Sydney FC have a higher average attendance than every single Sydney NRL club. That's the bigger story here. Sydney is an expansion market for the AFL, but it's the heartland of your sport, and not one single team has higher crowds than FC. Compare that with Melbourne, where the Victory barely keep pace with the Western Bulldogs....

ah ........ we have an annual aggregate attendance of 1.8 Million people
soccer .. about 350K
vicky kicky .... about the same
our games are watched by 50 Million Sydneysiders on FTA & another 25 Million on pay
soccer ... about 7 Million
flogball ... about the same
nice try d head
but another massive fail .... for the singletball brigade
