First they hate him and say he will never be allowed to return. Now some love him and want to use him in their advertising campaigns. How funny would it be to see him leave them again to go back to Union in preparation for the 2015 Rugby World Cup. Sounds like it is on the cards, he has no real interest in Rugby League by the sounds of things.

FOUR years ago, Sonny Bill Williams were the three dirtiest words in rugby league.

After his one-year deal was officially confirmed with the Roosters yesterday, the NRL now wants to put his name in lights again - including next season's advertising campaign.

There are fears the controversial footballer/boxer would turn his back on league after just one season and return to rugby union in preparation for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

GIVEN the gutless manner in which Sonny Bill Williams slunk out of rugby league in 2008, the least he could have done was humbly return, admit his past mistakes and hope, rather than expect, to be welcomed back.

Instead, the exceptionally talented footballer looked like a man sentenced to a year of community service when he announced yesterday he would join the Sydney Roosters on a one-year deal.

Williams acted like he was doing us a favour by coming back to the NRL. He didn't even have the decency to talk in glowing terms about rugby league, or how he missed the game he grew up playing.

Instead he spoke at length of his "love" for rugby union and how it was a tough decision to leave the other code.

He couldn't even feign interest in playing for New Zealand in next year's World Cup because, "I have to see how my boxing commitments are going".

How funny is it that the nRL welcome back people they hated in the years they weren't playing in the nRL, traitors if you will, with open arms? Izzy and $BW will both be adored now because they returned. To answer the OP, once $BW realises why he left in the first place (was it for money or to play a more challenging sport?) he will be out of there in a flash.

yes of course the VFL weren't desperate when they signed a rugby league player who'd never played a game .. to help them promote their new club ... for 1.5 Million a year ... were they c head ?

Nope, they had the spare cash so they went for a strategy outside the box. That's not desperation, that's strategic planning.

Desperation is banning a player from SOO because he's a lovely person, then fighting to be the first club to sign him on his return!

Did he piss off in the middle of the night hiding in airport toilets away from fans and the media?

Did Folau break a contract half way through a season and walk away?

Did Folau tell thousands of children the day before he left that there was nothing better than sticking by your mates and family before pissing off in the middle of the night?
