QUEENSLAND Test players have been branded "smart arses" after singing a Maroons victory song while representing Australia.

Several members of the Kangaroos squad found it "weird" when the Queenslanders started bellowing their Origin ditty after Saturday night's Test win in Townsville.

As players gathered around the trophy on the field at Dairy Farmers Stadium, Channel 9 captured several Maroons breaking into the aye aye yippee yippee aye chorus that has become synonymous with their Origin domination.

The bizarre antics not only sent Twitter into meltdown, but caused a tremendous stir with that other great social media barometer - Tommy Raudonikis.

"Absolute disgrace," the NSW legend said. "That kind of thing shows a complete lack of respect for the Australian jersey and what you're representing.

"A few years ago when NSW produced those hand grenade celebrations in Origin, Queensland had a huge whinge and I supported them.

"But this effort by the Maroons tops that easily. They're just bloody smart arses . . . and you can print that in the paper."

Arriving at Sydney Airport yesterday, NSW Origin captain Paul Gallen confirmed the Maroons had sung their Origin victory song on the field.

"I was one of the last blokes into the huddle, so it took me about five seconds to work out what was going on," Gallen said. "I'm not sure who started it but I don't think they meant anything by it.

"I guess they are just used to singing it. We (NSW) did notice it and mentioned it . . . but I certainly didn't sing it."

Fellow Blues great Benny Elias was also surprised by the outburst.

"I was watching the game with my son and thought they must've changed the Australian team song," Elias said.

"If what the Queenslanders sang is now considered part of Kangaroos celebrations, great. If not, it's very, very disappointing. I think Paul Gallen seemed to be standing there like 'what is going on?'."

While Australia remain No.1 in the international league ratings, there's no doubting an unspoken rift has long existed between NSW and Queensland players.

Earlier this year, Blues skipper Gallen revealed the warring tribes ate at different tables when in Australian camp. Now it seems they want him singing their team song too.

The lyrics are incredibly simple. Not even words, but a series of noises stolen from American folk song She'll Be Comin' Round The Mountain where the chorus goes: Singing aye aye yippee yippee aye . . . singing aye aye yippee yippee aye . . . singing aye aye yippee . . . aye aye yippee . . . singing aye aye yippee yippee aye.

Not surprisingly, Raudonikis isn't a fan.

"But what the Queenslanders seem to forget is that the tide, it'll turn," he said.

"And it's a bloody quick fall from the penthouse."

I also notice that Nate Miles was not singing the Maroons Song........good on you nate your team mates should feel ashamed of themselves.

I mean disrespect NSWelshaman all you like but do not stoop so low as to disrespect the Kangaroo jersey.

People wander why international league cant get of the ground.........SOO is the reason why and attitudes like shown on friday night.

AFL had been playing Origin before Thugby League was even invented.

And I am fairly sure American Football is not played internationally & do u think Americans care about that. I dont think so Dave just like we dont in the AFL.

At least AFL is the most popular sport in 1 country which is more than Thugby League. Oh sorry I forgot about PNG. hahaha

Why would we not understand state representation? We invented State of Origin. Of course, we grew beyond the need for it, what with Australian Football being more than a 2-state sport....

There has been talk of it but most AFL fans realise its now irrelevant since our game has moved ahead of the concept.

The reason it works in RL is your club comp is a joke. rL fans need something to look forward to.

I guess the Queensland players don't take playing for Australia* seriously then.

*It's a bit of a stretch calling them Australia when there's only players from 2 states being represented in the squad. Should be NSW/QLD imo.

Out of all the replies Stewie, your reply is the only one that relates to the topic. And i agree with you for the first and probable last time.

All in all my point was made with no objections from any RL fans on this site, terrible disrespect to the kangaroo Jersey and not to mention Aus won the game through Gallens great run.

Have to applaud the Queenslanders who did not sing the song, not all Qldanders are grubs after all.
