Ok, heres your proof:

Here is a thinkTV report showing xfactor on Tuesday the 17th rating 701k regional
http://www.thinktv.com.au/SiteMedia/w3s ... 202012.pdf

Here is the regional tam report for the same period again showing Xfactor Tuesday 17th with 707k EXCLUDING TAS & WA

Then underneath it has the Tas and WA ratings totalling 68k and 56k. So the total is actually 831k.

So, theres your proof. ThinkTV excludes regional WAA and Tasmania

BTW dave you need to add NZ to those ratings, as they are a nrl market with a NRL team and A TV Contract with the NRL.

So the gap is even wider dave.

Well done there eels. We must acknowledge our friends across the ditch.

And Dave, I commend you on your campaigning to stop our moderator acting like a dictator in this thread. It seems as though now he no longer has LG to screech "lock please", he is starting to show his true colours.

We must stand strong and united against this one. :salute:

Here are the Tas and WA regionals. They come to 253k. Add that to 4.190M for the AFL presentation and it rates 4.443M

Note for Dave, thinkTV posted the AFL presentation as 968k. Regional TAM also posted the AFL presentation as 968k but it clearly states "excluding Tas and Regional WA". Then they show the Tasmania and WA regional ratings were 253k.

Wow, 4.443M!!

Still need to add the NSWRL ratings from Nauru and San Marino to their totals. The ratings from Nauru and San Marino are crucial to determining which code is more popular in Australia.

It highlights the fact that the AFL telecast is longer but when similar periods of time, at more comparable times of the day are compared, the AFL wins handsomely.

Hows those thinkTV Tasmania figures going?

AFL TV deal 1.250b - expansion 220m as per Demetruio Head honcho of the AFL. Also take away the 100m less through the gates because of saturation on FOX/FTA and you deal comes in at 880m or there abouts.

2011 Total AFL crowds = 6525071
2012 Total AFL crowds = 6238876

That is 286195 less fans through the gate for the AFL clubs due to saturation.

So at a modest guess of $23 a head for a ticket in the AFL regular season that is 65million loss to the clubs for the year, and i am being very modest in my estemates here it could possibly be over 100m loss to the AFL clubs.
Demetriou described the establishment of GWS as ''a massive challenge'' and the code's expansion as the AFL's top priority this year, one that will cost it $220 million. ''It's not going to be an easy year,'' he said, ''and we could see a let-down with the Gold Coast after a pretty successful start in 2011.''

NRL TV deal 1.030b + 100m NZ Sky + internet right, AFL got 157m for online rights, NRL will get over 100m for internet rights. Total comes to around 1.2b-1.3b.

These ratings in NZ do matter no matter how much you try and convince us otherwise.

The AFL earned about 80m in the final series from ticket sales. Multiply that by 5 years, plus inflation and there's the money for expansion.

The NRL will need to bank roll clubs for extra grants, plus pay the players significantly more. Remember, the AFL earns 3 times what the NRL does from non TV sources.

So, again, the AFL GF was the highest rating sport in Australia and even including NZ =D> despite not even being shown in PT

The point I made, is that ratings in New Zealand, or Nauru, or San Marino, or Luxembourg for that matter, have little if anything to do with the strength of the sport in Australia.

if I understand your barely legible phrasing, are you suggesting that the NSWRL got more for their TV deal than the AFL did? Because I fail to see how $925m is bigger than $1.15b? Or are you adding in imaginary money from the future NZ TV rights that haven't even been signed yet?

Let me see if I have this straight: The ratings for Rugby League's 4 biggest games in New Zealand were 127k, 182k, 122k, for SOOs, and 235k for the GF. Out of a country of 4.4 million people, and this is a cause for bragging??

More people watched the AFL GF in Brisbane alone

The $220m figure is the total estimated cost. Much of that was paid for out of our last TV rights bonanza. It includes the tens of millions of dollars invested into the two stadiums. Crowds are down, Mostly due to teams sucking awfully, and the low drawing new clubs. Short term pain for long term gain. I'll also note, that our significantly reduced crowds were still three MILLION more than the NSWRL managed =D>

You're not being modest, you're being ********. the AFL has a membership culture. Most of the drop off comes from members not showing up. Members pay in full at the start of the season. While numbers that show up have an impact on stadium returns, signage, food and drink etc, for the majority of the missing people it's not a direct loss of a ticket price. Case in point, Port sold 30k memberships at the start of the year off the back of some good buzz around the club. The turned to poo, and people stopped showing up. Don't blame 'em.

eelofwest wrote:

They matter to you clearly, the point I was making, and will repeat now, is that they don't matter to AFL fans. This forum is basically a weiner measuring tournament as to which code is the biggest in Australia. The ratings from another country have zero bearing on which code is bigger in Australia. NZ is an important market for the NSWRL, it just doesn't mean anything here in the lucky country.

80m ?......less then 540,000 people attended the 9 VFL finals in 2012 ( down 75,000 on 2011) so that'd be ... $150 for every single ticket sold to every man women & child ... :-
about 80,000 MCG members attended the 5 finals games played there was well ..... so thats only about .. 460,000 paying customers
so that ticket price has gone up to ...almost $175 a ticket :?
