Are the AFL's eyes bigger than its belly?
Hi folks,
Forgive me for the abstract analogy but seriously, what is the go with the ridiculous prices the AFL is charging compared to the NRL during this finals season?
Does the AFL only have eyes for as much moolah as it can possibly gulp down from those toffs wealthy enough to fork out hundreds rather than acknowledging that their staple bread and butter market are those who would be financially stressed by the exorbitant ticket prices this greedy organisation is asking for...?
It's quite disgusting imo and I certainly hope the organisation cops some flack for it.
Comparatively the NRL on the other hand has priced its tickets fairly, allowing those who make less money the priviliedge of heading out to the big games. Well done NRL, the moral highground is yours yet again =D>

Agree. Greedy merkins, but hey if the fanbase is stupid enough to fund GWS, Suns, Add space, Marketing then why not hey....piesman2011 wrote:I feel this is one of the reasons why the second final in adelaide didnt sell out.

If the NRL tried this rubbish there would be someones head on the chopping block.

The prices aren't that bad, up here in queensland it's cheaper to go to a goldcoast game then the titans, which is why the suns has been slowly winning over the goldcoast

Is this why they are 61K down on attendance from last year, winning over or loosing interest quicklyQueenslandISAFL wrote:The prices aren't that bad, up here in queensland it's cheaper to go to a goldcoast game then the titans, which is why the suns has been slowly winning over the goldcoast

The crowds were getting bigger at the end of the year, and even outselling the titans on many occasionsDogs wrote:Is this why they are 61K down on attendance from last year, winning over or loosing interest quicklyQueenslandISAFL wrote:The prices aren't that bad, up here in queensland it's cheaper to go to a goldcoast game then the titans, which is why the suns has been slowly winning over the goldcoast![]()

Re: Are the AFL's eyes bigger than its belly?
I know of some Swans fans who couldn't afford to attend the preliminary final as they were trying to save for a possible grand final appearance and all the expenses that go with that. On this one, I tend to agree the AFL has got the pricing structure of finals tickets wrong. My Grand Final ticket alone was $355.00 on top of a preliminary final ticket last week worth $70.piesman2011 wrote:I feel this is one of the reasons why the second final in adelaide didnt sell out.

My Grand Final ticket is $700 which is a bit expensive. However it will be worth it.

The AFL are relying on Melbourne crowds to fork out the moolah to make ends meet. They had to be pissed at the Swans crowd being smaller than the Bulldogs/Bunnies prelim, and that was because of prices for sure! The only reason NRL fans don't pay is because it's cheaper to stay at home and watch the game on the telly, and it works on telly too. That $hits me because we need the fans to go to games.

Really? Why would they be upset at 2 large NRL teams outdrawing the Swans in Sydney?Striker wrote:The AFL are relying on Melbourne crowds to fork out the moolah to make ends meet. I think we have consensus here that the AFL is a greedy money hungry organisation which has lost touch with the general public...as a result of its greed. Crowds will continue to dwindle if the organisation continues with this tact. And deservedly so.

LOL, regular season games are cheaper than the NRL, especially for kids. This is one of the many excuses used by NRL fans for the disparity in crowd sizes.King-Eliagh wrote:I think we have consensus here that the AFL is a greedy money hungry organisation which has lost touch with the general public...as a result of its greed. Regular season shmegular season. Fact is the NRL's reg season games are still affordable to the masses. The AFL's finals season prices are cutting out the masses to make way for the chardonnay sippin toffs.

Not according to the masses on LU. Its a major reason many claim they stay home to watch it on the TV. The kids prices for general admission tickets during the season are like 1/3 the cost of the NRL equivalent. So before getting on your high horse how about thinking of the children!!!King-Eliagh wrote:Regular season shmegular season. Fact is the NRL's reg season games are still affordable to the masses.
