Seriously, anyone taking note of the tv ratings for live, prime time NRL in Perth?

2,000 viewers for the live, prime time NRL finals last weekend.

Bring on the WA Pirates in the NRL. WA it appears is desperate for a RL team despite the dismal failure in the past of the Western Reds. #-o

Too true. Even dismal ratings for finals now, even as low as 5k. And this is from 1.8M people.

They did get 20K to a game in Perth this year. Thats the AFL equivalent of about 45K. surely that would be the norm for a new NRL franchise. Seriously a new RL francise would be good for Perth and good for RL because at the moment more people are migrating to WA then to Qld. In the short term it might not be successful but in the long term it would be.

A one off will always draw a bigger crowd than normal. In the Reds last year they were lucky to draw 9K.

Those stats would be from 1997-98 so Im not sure how much the demographics of WA have changed in 15 years. But I tend to agree they would probabaly get about 10K to most matches in the short term.

Talking about teams and their performance during the Super League period has no relevance for today. Just teams didn't disappear but whole competitions and the creation of the NRL followed. Slowly but surely the recovery has come.

unlike a certain other sport that rushed into western sydney & is already finished there .. it just doesn't know it yet

no we'll do it right
this is the first year of regular broadcasts in WA .. they'll grow ova the years
more games to come in the west attracting 20,000 each time
yep .. its all going very well

How do you explain the lack of interest in live, prime time NRL broadcasts in Perth?

And as Xman points out the crowds for RL dwindled to just 9k in the end. Clearly wasn't a tough choice to swing the axe on the Western Reds back then. Not sure what has improved since then to warrant a new team.

Prove it.

If any team clearly fudges crowds it's the lowly raiders. #-o not that anyone would notice. Did they get more than a few FTA games this year? They might get a total of 10 by 2018!
