Until the introduction of the Broncos, Rugby league in Queensland was playing second fiddle to the Sydney/NSW rugby league and declining. The Brisbane Rugby League had gone without a decent replacement.
Similar position to SA and WA in Australian rules (except they were did maintain their popularity) with the VFL AFL.

Victoria was the instigator and dominant and force in the game and the heartland.
Sydney was the instigator and the dominant force of rugby league in Australia, ergo heartland.
Rugby league dominant in Queensland, yes…heartland, no.

So is/was qld the rugby league heartland or was sydney/nsw the rugby league heartland….heartland singular….no plural….illiterate bumpkin.
the code in this country started within weeks of each other in both states 114 years ago , the first kangaroos that played the NZ all golds here in Aust & toured GB later in 1908 had Qlders & NSWshmen in it

your assertion that QLD is not RL heartland is beyond absurd ..

When the NSWRL expanded, how QRL clubs were invited. None, not one from the “heartland”.
When the NSWRL decided to “invite” qld into the NSWRL, how many QRL clubs were invited, NONE, not one from the “heartland”, made up teams instead……just like the Storm was….and the warriors……
Heartland singular…not plural…..

QLD refused to join in 1982 , choosing to continue their comp which was as old as the NSWRL one, they changed their minds in 1988
hell Newcastle refused to join from 1911 to 1988 , seeing the comp as a sydney thing only

IneQUOLLity, this is truly stupid pal. Embarrassing in fact!! Heartlands is where a sport has it's most strength and dominance as a whole entity. I.E. elite clubs, senior clubs, junior clubs, school teams, attendances, supporters, administrators, interest etc etc. You are confusing single entity elite clubs with this simple concept.

Also: heartlands is not and can not be wholly singular. There can be, and are, many heartlands in sports, business, arts, music etc etc. In this case the heartlands of Rugby League in Australia are in NSW and Qld. Plural. Just as the heartlands of fumbling are in Vic, the desert states and little Tassie. Plural.

I hope this helps pal as embarrassing yourself is not a happy time.

Interesting, you are using “heartlands” when the term initially used was “heartland”

As always you are trying to deflect by insult. Heart is the prominent part of the word…heart, how many do have….heart….not hearts.

Oh my
You seem to have a very isolated myopic view of what Heartland is ( not surprising seeing as that is a common theme with fumblers).
Here's an example of what heartland can mean .
In American politics there are many states that are either heartland Red or blue.
Not just one
Ohio & Wyoming are Republican heartland .
So in Aust ..NSW & Qld are RL heartland .
Try to keep up .
There endeth your lesson today .

From rugby league planet

“Since then the NRL has continued to go from strength to strength as a national competition. While Sydney is still the heartland – with 11 of the league’s 16 teams coming from either the Harbour City or regional NSW and many of them among the best in the NRL – the five interstate (or New Zealand-based) teams have proven to be a valuable part of the league. The Broncos have been the most successful team in the NRL era and are the biggest contributor to the NRL’s overall attendance numbers, while the Melbourne Storm have been a dominant on-field force representing Sydney’s southern neighbours, who are typically more interested in the AFL, cricket and even horse racing.”

Agrees with me on both arguments, heartland was and is Sydney……current most popular and successful clubs are outside the heartland.

I can find other rugby sites that will state similar views if you want.

A book written about rugby league in Queensland by a Queensland rugby league player, couldn't be biased, could it…
However in 2014, this was said….
“Qld is league's heartland: NRL boss
NRL boss Dave Smith has raised eyebrows by claiming Queensland is rugby league's heartland and backed the Maroons to clinch up to 11 straight Origin series.

Queensland is rugby league's heartland and the Maroons may yet win 11 straight State of Origin titles, according to NRL chief executive Dave Smith.”

So Queensland is really rugby leagues heartland? Seems to be some confusion.
Maybe thats why made up queensland clubs joined the ARL/NSWRL and Sydney clubs didn't join the QRL.

And only the made up clubs joined super league too.

Broken Hill is clearly AFL .

North qld - well having bought in Port Douglas and spent a bit of time there (and surrounds) afl has a major presence.

But do agree that Brisbane is heartland however aussie rules is not a minor sport but any measure

I would agree, even with regard to afl being equal 100 klms north of the Victorian border. One of major differences I note is you can play Aussie Rules at junior and senior level pretty much across the country - with the same not being able to be said about RL - although I do think there have been improvements in this area lately . For example, when I lived on Gippsland they had 1 team briefly but folded. So you can’t play Rl if you live in a say LaTrobe Valley or Bairnsdale etc. whereas I can go to a small country town in Warrixk Qld and there isa team playing in a regional comp (Toowoomba I believe has a strong league too). But back to the point, Qld is indeed Rl heartland - I agree. Although Aussie rules has a decent enough preeemcd that tge nrl/arl would love I. Non-heartland states.
