Fight Club - Football Crowds

Post by Xman »

So, with 2 big finals on tonight, what's everyone's predictions about crowds? Both games involve 2 teams from the one city so local derbies.

Who will get the most fans do you think? :-k :?>

82,568 for the AFL. It should be 100,000 but I bet a lot of Cricket Club Members wont turn up which always hurts the crowd.

The Rugby League will get around 40,000

45k (full house) for AFL in Adelaide, 19k for NRL in Melbourne

44k at the MCG for the Cats, 21k for the NRL #-o

That's 175k for 3 games of AFL and only 75k for 3 games of NRL

24k for the NRL in Canberra, a sell out I hear. What a pack of bandwagoners. They average just over 10k all year and suddenly turn out for a final.

42k for the AFL in Perth, a sell out

So the AFL had 4 games for a total of around 220k, at an average of around 55k. This included 3 out of 4 sellouts.

The NRLs 4 games totaled just over 100k for an average of around 25k, including 1 or maybe 2 sellouts.

:D

Sydney crowds let the NRL down

Despite being the most eagerly anticipated first-week finals clash in many years with more subplots than a season of The Wire, the Canterbury v Manly showdown attracted a crowd of just 36,420 to Stadium Australia, again highlighting the lethargy of Sydney-based rugby league followers. Sea Eagles fans are notoriously reluctant to travel, but the NRL would have been bitterly disappointed with the turnout for such a high-powered encounter – particularly given the match between also-rans Parramatta and St. George Illawarra drew almost 10,000 more people to the same venue five days earlier. This does not bode well for the Manly v North Queensland sudden-death final at the Sydney Football Stadium; the same teams played before just 13,972 fans at the SFS in last year's qualifying final. Meanwhile, AFL crowds of 84,625 (Hawthorn v Collingwood) and 44,460 (Geelong v Fremantle, an interstate team) attended finals at the MCG, and crowds in Adelaide and Perth both topped 40,000.

Nice try!

Last years AFL finals rnd 1 included 2 local derbies. This year there was only 1. 3 games were sold out too.

The article was from the Sydney media. This dissapointment in their pathetic fans is obvious.

more fans in 4 games than any NRL round this year, and more than double the NRLs finals round despite selling out 3 games! I wonder which code is on the nose?
