11k first year average, thats a flop, good luck in expanding the game, but if there is such big interest in AFL, that is a flop. Especially when keep going on about big crowds and this is the first year where people are generlly more excited, the Syd game was 38K, which a 1/3 of the total annual crowd and largely inflates the total numbers for the year which is only 112377. I am sure the Coles add might have been written for the AFL, Down, Down crowds and interest are down that is what your expansions are going to do. Lets see how the crowds go next year hey

!!!!!!

When they start winning the crowds will come.
People in Sydney only seem to turn up when teams are winning, Brisbane is the same.
Strange people in Rugby States.
At least in Football States people turn up rain hail or shine. Says a lot doesnt it!!

so you consider a first year expansion team's average crowd of 11k a flop when there are NRL teams in RL heartland that average less people?
Typical NRL supporter.

Melbourne Storm averaged 12685. But I guess that is a success. They will finish 2nd as well compared to GWS finishing 18th.

We all know here that crowds of 15k for AFL games is not good enough to make money. So crowds of 6-10k are a disaster.
NRL on the other hand has way lower operating costs so crowds of 10-15 is still manageable.

Crowds indicate support. Stadium deals dictate financial viability. Im sure the giants pay way less rent for their stadium than the Storm.
As far as popularity goes, the fact that a brand new, bottom finishing, second expansion team in Sydney averages near the same crowd as the second placed storm is hilarious!

Either way, the fact that their crowds are only 5 or so thousand behind some NRL clubs is still pretty funny, especially given they are a brand new expansion team and bottom.

Everybody knows that there were 30k swans fans and 8k GWS fans if they are lucky at that game.
The real home ave for GWS is in the 8k region........disaster written all over it....
Also take into account that the AFL is the biggest team game in AUS and its quite easy to see why the AFL is upping there predictions from 150m loss to 220m loss in the first year.
A similar bad GWS crowd for the NRL would be in the 5k region.

Perspective is a wonderful thing isn't it. Poor old throwball fans just don't get it.
A successful Giants team scares the living daylights out of them. They have good reason to be fearful too might I add. Crowd average for GWS better than some NRL teams in so called RL heartland when the team is copping some absolute floggings.

The GWS was more attractive to patrons than established rl clubs Penrith and Canberra.
Even though the Suns dropped a bit this year they were more attractive than Easts, Cronulla, Melbourne and of course Penrith and Canberra whilst just short of the Titians and Para.

forget about anything other then the midgits V the 4 western Sydney NRL clubs in .. western Sydney
now it is an established fact that the ants have fudged their crowds to the max in their first year
their average at Skoda wouldn't be 5000 if the real attendance figures were released & thats being generous
& probably only half of these actually paid to get in
lets put this up against the 4 NRL teams
Bulldogs Av 23,372
Parra Av 16,876 wooden spoon
Tigers Av 16,236 missed the finals
Penrith Av 10,858 missed the finals
thats 65,000 regular NRL fans attending games to ...... 5000 vicky kicky fans ... in our Western Sydney Heartland
the ants were smashed from pillar to post
& guess what flogballers
2013... is gunna be worse
