What and where is "heartland"?

Somebody started a post wrt to rl heartland which was totally confusing.
All I gained was that the NRL has been taken over by islanders.
We don't have heartland in AFL. People tend to say "traditional" AFL states. Which is confusing because all states and territories have had there own league from early days.
Most people would determine that heartland was were someone tradionanally draws strength from, not neccessarily the dominant code even.
Where is rl heartland? NSW and Qld. Only in an electorial sense (winner takes all).
It seems to me that the heartlands of NSW and Qld are looking more like Swiss chesse.
Townsville - yes, Cairns - no. Barassi line - no, Coffs - no.
Queanbeyan - yes, Canberra - no.
Sydney - yes. NS - - no, ES - no.

Its okay Cos looks like your the only person in that thread who does not understand AFL territory's and NRL territory's....
NRL = NSW, QLD 2 state game as we have heard millions of times of you lot.
AFL = VIC, WA, SA, TAS, NT. The national game as we here from countless AFL commentators.
Really not hard to understand, but i guess you don't like the way the results worked out that NRL is more popular outside its heartlands then the AFL. =D>

Australia has a Labour government so by your reasoning Australia = Labour heartland.
I love rl spin. rl is contracting in it's heartland = being more diverse (needing more from the outside)!!
