100 dollar bills it seems!

What on Earth do these fatcats think they are? Seems they've gone stark raving madsince their tv rights deal and one would hope the tv companies learn from this ridiculous misuse of their money.

From an annual pay package of $560,000 - less than many of the best-paid players in the league back in 2004 - his pay climbed to $2.1 million last year, double that of dual Brownlow medallist Chris Judd. Last year the league's 11 key executives - who all report directly to Demetriou - earned $6.2 million between them, an average of $536,500. That's well above the $365,922 earned by Prime Minister Julia Gillard, and 12 per cent more than the year before.


Debate over the AFL collective bargaining agreement has polarised the AFL community. Hall of Fame legend Leigh Matthews has likened the players to ''serfs'' who are beholden to the league.

The average player salary has risen only 22.5 per cent since 2004, from $184,656 to $226,165.

The AFL have a good admin but damm are they paying through the nose for them..... siphoning money away from the clubs and players that deserve it most . GWS GCS styles......

If your not careful the AFL will turn out like the USA, to top heavy and not enough bread for the guys below.

Two points: the AFL are in a better financial state now than ever, mainly thanks to AD. The TV rights only provides th AFL with 25% of its yearly revenue, far less than the NRL.

I read it dope. AD leads the best sports administration in the country and deserves to be rewarded.

FYI and to answer your first invalid time wasting question - the article doesnt only mention fatcat demetriou.

The head of a billion dollar a year business gets paid 2.1 million dollars a year. Not really much of a story. Unfortunately there are close to 900 players. If AFL could afford to pay them all 2 million dollars a year that would be fine unfortunately they can only afford to give them about 350K average by the end of the next TV deal. People responding to the stories all make lots of different comments, however the fact that for the first story there was only 44 comments shows that most people who read it didn't really care one way or the other.

Piesman please read the increase fatcat demetriou plumped on his own salary in comparison to the players salaries.

Most people dont really care about what goes on outside their own lives pies, you cant make out that alls ok cause it only got 44 comments.

Yeah I read it. His salary went up by a factor of about 4. This year I believe his salary went down. I think he got some sort of bonus which the board approved. I dont think he approves his own salary there is a board that would make the final decision on that. Like I said the AFL is about a 1 billion a year industry, 2 million a year for the CEO sounds about right. The NRL CEO will get about that much when the NRL earns 1 billion a year in revenue.

Yes and the board aka the head honchos are overpaying themselves in proportion to the players. Fatcats filling their wallets with the tv money. Are the supporters watching Andy D and his pack of Fat head honchos chowing down buckets of KFC and slurping oversized coca cola cups? No they're watching supreme athletes do their thing. Shame on Andy D and his troup of fatcats. Shame shame shame!!!

The board are all volunteers, I believe similar to the new NRL board. I could be wrong but I believe that the board has approved AD's pay rises perhaps he would have gone somewhere else if he didn't get the pay rises.


League chief Andrew Demetriou also took a $400,000 hit to his hip pocket after his salary fell from $2.2 million to $1.8 million last year.
Demetriou's wage was higher in 2010 because of a one-off retention bonus. The pay cut means Gold Coast superstar Gary Ablett may have surpassed Demetriou as the game's highest paid figure.
