Magpie injury crisis deepens: Shaw, Thomas sidelined
April 19, 2012 - 7:31PM

Collingwood's injury crisis has hit epic proportions, with Heath Shaw and Dale Thomas breaking down with hamstring strains.

Shaw tweaked the muscle at training last night, and Thomas reported soreness after last weekend's defeat by Carlton. The Magpies say both will miss the game against Port Adelaide at the weekend as well as the Anzac Day clash with Essendon.

Nathan Buckley's team already has to find replacements for Luke Ball (knee) and Ben Reid (quadriceps), who were injured during the Carlton game.

The Thomas injury was described by director of football Geoff Walsh as a "minor hamstring disruption". But under the normal rule of thumb for these injuries, both Shaw and Thomas would be struggling to be fit for the round-six encounter with Western Bulldogs.

Collingwood already has the likes of Chris Tarrant (calf), Andrew Krakouer (knee), Brent Macaffer (knee) and Alan Didak (adductor, resumed in the VFL last week) absent in a luckless start to Buckley's reign as head coach.
