down a staggering 1550 a game so far in 2012
this even after the scheduling of several blockbusters

the average after 3 rnds in 2011 was 37,888
in 2012 it has fallen to 36,338

http://stats.rleague.com/AFL/crowds/summary.html

& it will continue to fall ... with many .. many uninteresting .. lopsided & for gone conclusions coming up in the coming weeks

VFL... on the nose

Yes I'm not surprised and have to say I agree Raider. It's not looking good for the coming weeks. Even Xman reckons many games each week are foregone conclusions. Although he doesnt say it openly, if you read his posts and behaviour closely you can see he thinks things should be better. Hopefully he'll open up soon and talk to us about the woes of the AFL competition...hopefully.

Yeah then we can comfort him and give him counseling so he doesn't drop into depression

Sorry to break up your little ill-informed party, but:

AFL crowds up to rnd 3 compared for the last 4 years.
2012 981,121
2011 909,330
2010 943,823
2009 946,493

=D> =D> =D>

And for some real depression the NRL:
2012 963,592
2011. 981,232
2010. 993,944
2009. 980,728
2008. 1,032,304
2007. 1,018,752

Your forgetting the fact that you have a extra game every round, so if you look at crowd average your down so far on last year as raider stated.
When the NRL adds 2 teams in 2014-2015 we will get a crowd jump total also you dimwit.

Yes as per usual Raiders research was sound, Xman's misleading.

For those who are approaching this topic sensibly, i.e. raider and eels, could you care to provide your estimates of the fall in averages by midseason? I know its tricky and crowds are often dependent on the independent variable of weather, but I think its interesting to have a stab.

Based on raiderdaves research..

I predict that by the end of round 12 the AFL comp attendance will be down an average of 4000 (or around 14%) to what it was the same time as last year.

Xman if you're willing to be sensible you can provide a prediction aswell. But no more dodgy speak from you, we've had enough of your shady, shonky, backin out of bets character round these parts. [-X

Why am I not surprised this silly thread has been created by Raider. More BS as we have come to expect from him.

He's provided the average attendances beaussie, which, given there are more teams in the AFL comp now, is a more valid indication of crowd attendances than the total.

Fine work once again raider. =D>

Ill take first stab, i am thinking it will drop to an average of about 35,000 by round 12 and by round 18 34,000. :D

There are many extra AFL games being played in stadiums with capacities well below the AFL average. EG: Hobart, western Sydney, The average was always going to fall because of this.

However there has been a significant rise in the number of people attending the AFL in the first 3 rounds! Significant!

How's the NRL doing? :-k

The new team has contributed attendances of 38k + 11k + 6K= 55K. Subtract that away from this years ratings and they are still well ahead of last year!

But the average argument is irrelevant. New expansion markets will always draw lower crowds. The real result is that more people are watching the game

Surprise, surprise

Do you ever form your own informed opinion from actual observations?

Yes and my observations of the 4-6 basketcases in the league have been the primary observation informing my opinions. Raiderdave just often happens to supporting facts. How you like them apples?

Raiderdave and facts are two words that should not be used in the same sentence! [-X
