Massive jump of 45% on the same game last year! =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>

2011: 690,000 Capital City FTA, including only 9,000 in Sydney and 36,000 in Brisbane.

2012: 756,000 Capital City FTA, including 40,000 in Sydney and 51,000 in Brisbane, and an additional 244,000 on Pay.

Interestingly, the additional 244,000 Pay viewers didn't appear to take ratings away from Seven, with FTA viewers in Adelaide and Perth all up on 2011, and viewership in Melbourne only down 24,000.

OMG, I have just tallied up the Round 1 AFL tv ratings

AFL

Round 1 - Total - 5,298,000

Compared the AFL with the Round 1 NRL tv ratings

NRL

Round 1 - Total - 3,382,000

Can truly appreciate why the AFL tv rights are valued at $1.253 Billion and the NRL less than half that.

I missed this post before. In answer to your question cos, all 4 FTA AFL games are broadcast live on 7mate in NSW/ACT and QLD.

It's wonderful not having to wait up until midnight anymore. Only wish Channel 7 would do a lot more cross promotion on their main channel promoting live footy on 7mate for the next 5 years.

Daniel Green pointed this out in his opinion piece he put together for this site. Very insightful article if you haven't read it already.

Thinking about this and the implications.
Murdoch's Ch10 decide to pull out of AFL possibly because they are skint.
Ch7 must have been initially a little worried but now laughing all the way to the bank.
Ch9 who aren't too flash and were wondering just how much to offer for the nrl must now be wondering
whether they want a product that is going to look poorly by comparison.

Hopefully Ch7 will see this as an opportunity to cross promote it's product and reap further benefits.
Obviously the strategy of underwriting the expansion teams with TV rights revenue has worked marvellously.
Can we start thinking about NZ now ?

Then I suggest you have a look at Crickeys website they have the ARL winning the ratings on Friday night.

It was 2 million ahead over the entire round. Anyway, is there a Link to this crickey story?

If you are referring to http://www.crikey.com.au/2012/03/26/afl ... fta-watch/ you need to read closer. The AFL won the live v live battle. The claim that the NRL won the night at the bottom of the article was when both NRL games were added together. Any surprise the total ratings for 2 games beat 1? :?

Tell me about it, cos789 stop smoking the gunga mate its effecting your brain. AFL use to have coverage in NZ why bother going down a failed path again.

If the AFL think Western Sydney is gonna be a tough market for them then NZ is at least 50 years away from having anything of note in the AFL.
