"The NRL needs full houses in Sydney games"

Still talking about the AFL I see. Full houses needed in Sydney. Like that's going to ever happen. Deeply worried indeed.
Rugby league officials are deeply worried about the AFL's whopping $100 million injection into its newest franchise, the Blacktown-based GWS Giants.

One NRL club chief executive said: "There is no way we can match the AFL's money. We have to get out there and promote our code."

The new ARL Commission is closely monitoring the on-field success and off-field strategic performance of GWS this year. And the development comes as FFA boss Frank Lowy revealed his plans for a western Sydney A-League franchise. One well-placed rugby league source said: "Our game needs a big year.

"The NRL needs full houses in Sydney games. We can't afford to lose an inch to any rival sport. The AFL is here and they mean business."Former Test skipper Laurie Daley said Sydney needed to rally behind rugby league.

That's the threat right there, Dave. Apathy by your lot. "Oh it'll all blow over"

That's why you lot are in so much trouble. You don't give a real sh1t about your own game!

It'll come if you lot don't shape up. Stop laughing and start taking your game more seriously, and start at home and demand the Raiders get off their collective butts and get a major sponsor!

Game "ova"........

For the NRL if they don't stop the bleeding at the gate.

If the average attendance in Sydney doesn't jump above 20,000 in season 2012 (and it won't unless the clubs start getting out there and calling for every RL fan to get to games) then the NRL is doomed.

Accept it, Dave. Your precious sport is on the nose.

So what will you say if the GWS average more fans than some Sydney NRL teams, the titans or storm?

What level of support would you be prepared to say they have had a successful start?

The NRL does appear to be flourishing right now with memberships way up. A good thing and something our AFL fans will understand as a good thing and perhaps may even be a little worried about...

Membership numbers have been proven to be fudged. No one in the know takes them seriously in the NRL.

The NRL are quoting improved membership figures of 10-15%. Yet that figure only equates to 30k. The AFL have an increase of 8% or nearly 50k!

Worried?

Memberships are only half the job. They need gate receipts as well.

Idiot!

The AFL have almost doubled the NRLs increase in member numbers from last year! The NRL are starting from a very low base. Which would you rather? 650k members with 50k more or 200k with 20k more?
