NRL expansion dealt a blow by ARL commission

RUGBY League's expansion hopefuls have been dealt a blow, with the ARL Commission last night refusing to guarantee there will be an 18-team competition by 2015.
The fact that some people are jumping the gun (on expansion), I can't help that," Grant said last night.
"While we really appreciate the interest and the work of the bid teams, it really is early days and we need to decide what to do as a business strategically to keep the existing clubs financially strong.
"At this point in time it is premature for consortiums to be putting forward their bids now. People are getting overly enthusiastic about (expansion) and it's probably not what we'd suggest that they do.
"As a commission we need to decide where we believe expansion will suit us, if in fact we decide to do that at all.
"2015 has been suggested as a potential date for expansion but the Commission has not considered this and won't be for some time."

Poor Raiderdave and his bold but ill-informed claims of NRL expansion. Looks like the nRL will remain effectively the "East-coast Rugby League" for quite some time yet.

Maybe I underestimated Grant. Maybe he knows that the turnover isn't conducive to expansion and he knows that all the clubs except maybe for the Broncos are in deep trouble. For instance he knows that the Raiders not having a major sponsor is BIG trouble for them! He also knows that the Sharks not having a CEO is BIG trouble for them!
