Bub seals Hunt's Suns deal

FATHER-to-be Karmichael Hunt has revealed the incoming addition to his family has sealed his decision to remain with the Gold Coast Suns.
Hunt's commitment to the club, on what is believed to be a two-year deal, has been the worst-kept secret in sport, but yesterday the former NRL star opened up on his reasons to remain at the club.
The 25-year-old is expected to formally sign within two weeks.
The Bulletin understands the thought of going back to rugby league was not even considered.
Hunt conceded the idea of returning to the Heineken Cup with French rugby union club Biarritz, with who he played a season with in 2009-10, was attractive.
But Hunt revealed the decision to stay was sealed when fiancee Emma Harding, who is due in late June, fell pregnant late last year.
"I would be selfish if it (the new addition to the family) didn't come into the equation," Hunt said.
"It would be hard for our family members to travel overseas and visiting every now and then.
"At this time of my career with my age and my ambitions and drive for what I want to do as an athlete, going back to France right now on a long-term deal is not what I want to do.
"It is a good environment on the Gold Coast and close to home, so it all comes into the equation and I thought about that one hard."
The former rugby league international shocked the sporting world three years ago when he quit the Brisbane Broncos to sign with the AFL's newest club.
But he promised no surprises this time around.
"There are no tricks in the bag ... I am happy on the Gold Coast and really enjoying AFL," Hunt said.
"I definitely have a lot of improvement left in me and I'd like to be a part of this team for a while yet."
Hunt's deal when he signed with the Suns was lucrative thanks to the AFL's special promotions component of his contract.
It is a very worthwhile investment as Hunt has earned the AFL millions of dollars worth of valuable publicity in the northern battleground states.
And it is believed the AFL will extend its deal with the code-hopper, who said an announcement of the new deal was not far away.
"(My manager) Dave (Riolo) flew up a few weeks ago and we had a chat about things and it is back to him now," Hunt said.
"The little one is due in June, so I think it will be before that."
Suns coach Guy McKenna has already told Hunt he plans to use him in the midfield this season.
Hunt, who has a new streamlined frame after a strong summer on the track, said he could not wait.
"I had a taste of it last year in the twos and I really enjoyed being around the ball," he said.
"So this year in the second half of the pre-season I've been training as an inside midfielder and doing a lot of work with 'Cheesy' (midfield coach Shane O'Bree) and the rest of the midfielders.

Seems to me the only reason he didnt take off to france for bigger bucks was his wife's havin a baby.
He is such a money grabber. Wonder how much more he intends to suck out of the AFL before his family life is more settled when he can run to greener pastures.
The AFL would be wise to get rid of him and concentrate on folau, a bloke who committed a full pre season in the lower division rather than running around france getting paid to play rugby. But the fact is, the AFL is not a wise organisation.

I'm not surprised.
He was always a lazy player and is better suited to AFL because it's a simpler and softer sport compared to Rugby League IMO.
He was made to look so much better than he actually was because of Lockyer. He may have all the tries and try assist from the Broncos third man play but it was Lockyer that got him into those positions. Often he just had to draw the defender and pass to his outside man.

Anyway read Khunt's first two quotes. He gives away the real reason straight away. Clear to anyone who can intepret meaning, anyone who doesnt need to emulate Paris Hilton's excessive use of acronyms to sound cool that is.

Yes I agree with the Lockyer stuff cooee. Khunt is also shiiithouse at AR. The AFL have gotten their promo value out of him, and this really did little once everyone saw how the gumby ran around out there. They should be cutting their losses and shutting the door on Karmichael.

No one will remember what Hunt was like on the field once he retires. All anyone will remember is how he turned his back on his birth country and how he was used as a tool in the failed AFL push into the Gold Coast.

FITH , The AFL is way out in front and the fact is that he's a handy player.
The SUNS outdrew Tittans so I'd say they're doing OK all round. =D> =D> =D>
