AFL Threat to NRL

Finally someone in the RL press says what most RL supporters are too afraid to say. Fear is setting in. We're coming to get you. :<> :<> :<>
AFL threat
THE Melbourne Storm are guaranteed funding for the next six years as part of the News Limited-ARL agreement to set up the commission. It's to guarantee their survival and to ensure the game can attract the sponsorship dollars of national corporations that only a Melbourne team can do.
If it's OK to hand out money to the Storm, what about the clubs under immediate threat from Kevin Sheedy and the Giants. What about the Titans on the Gold Coast against just as big a threat in the Suns.
Parramatta, Penrith, Canterbury, the Tigers and the Titans need to get a bigger share of your marketing budget.
They also need people on the ground, more players in schools, more coaching clinics.

Gimme a break. There's 4 million people in sydney beaussie. Plenty to support two AFL sides and continue the recent growth of RL in this city. :D

maybe they will give extra funding to these teams
that'd be bad for the AFL
our clubs could probably handle the Thuns & Midgits with no assistance anyway ... thuns disappearing already & the midgits are an utter joke
but
gee
drive a nail into these new AFL clubs coffin much ... if they did have some extra help

it has NO appeal in Western Sydney ...
soft kids will continue to play soccer
hard kids .... league
& they'll all watch League on TV
that is Western Sydney
your vehicle to try & convert kids in West Sydney could not be any worse
they will be the subject of ridicule & hilarity for many years
a shambles
an utter shambles this venture will be

What a load of shit. Kids who like soccer will play soccer. Kids who like RL will play that. Kids who watch the AFL on TV and see their is a team in the area will give that a go. Not everyone in these areas likes RL that's for sure. If they did they'd go to some games.

and who the frig would they be ?
they've had an opportunity to watch your stupid game on TV for 30 friggin years now ...
& has that lead to anything of any signifigance in Western Sydney ?
no ...
has 30 years inspired hordes to take it up
no
why ?
it is a s.hit game that no one cares about
& with GWS
you can put lipstick on a pig
its still a pig.

TV coverage of the AFL in Sydney has not been good for 30yrs. Stop lying you spud!
The grass roots comps are growing. Participation numbers are growing. FTA and payTV coverage is increasing tremendously.

Yes Cos, I'm happy with 2 sydney teams alhough they should have put darwin in b4 gws. But now I'll get to watch a different side in sydney and believe there is room for two teams here. I agree with Raider though, its not a very sustainable setup. The AFL will have to support GWS to billio for a loong looo0000ooon time to come. The culture here is RL. The introduction of a team based in homebush, you can barely call that western sydney anymore, will not bring hordes of kiddies into the junior ranks. Sure a few will take it up and it is slowly building in sydney. But there's not gunna be a bunch of local AFL players rising out of the area for a long time, it would be foolish to think that. But I'm sure you would cos lettuce, you overrate anything with a sherrin involved. Raider's spot on, swans have been here 30 years and we still dont have many local recruits. 50-70 years and GWS might produce half a team of local recruits.
Darwin on the other hand has the whole territory and northern aus at its fingertips, players a plenty. What a team of local legends they'd develop, if only the AFL pumped the same money up there. But no, the AFL has no sense of what might be a sustainable option. A shame really as I dont wanna see another season with too many lopsided games...

I'd be interested to see the rate at which they are growing...could it just be at the same rate as population growth?
