Which is the best football code? Here you can have it out with other football fans.

Do you think Australian Rules Football needs a new name?

Yes, it is perhaps the oddest and dumbest name for a sport in the world.

A new name for Australian Rules Footy?

Post by King-Eliagh »

Howdy folks

Please vote in my important poll.

I voted yes. As I've stated recently I think the name is a real turnoff and counterproductive to the potential for AR to become something more than a curiosity played in unkempt out of town parks soley by aussie expats o/s. It provides real difficulties in promoting the sport o/s also.

I mean just imagine for a minute folks. Imagine some fat chinese turd called andrew demetriou came to your town promoting a sport called 'Chinese Rules Tennis', and an exhibition match was played and it involved two chinese folk running around with baseball bats on an oval hitting a cube shaped ball at four posts. You'd be thinking, 'that's not tennis' :?

Please folks, the name of Australian Rules Football needs to change - lets think up some better names for it so we can actually be the instigators of positive change. :D Please provide your suggestions for an new name and I'll be happy to choose the best one and send it in a formal email to AFL head office. Imagine, you could actually be the person who makes this sport more accessible and credible to the international community :o Imagine that! :o

So far only Raiderdave has provided some names and the pick of his names was 'mylilsistersshortsball'. Lets see if we can think of something even better guys! :thumbleft:

There will be no name change. It's called Australian Rules and/or AFL. That is all.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_football

American football is a sport played between two teams of eleven with the objective of scoring points by advancing the ball into the opposing team's end zone. Known in the United States simply as football, it may also be referred to informally as gridiron football.[1][2] The ball can be advanced by running with it or throwing it to a teammate. Points can be scored by carrying the ball over the opponent's goal line, catching a pass thrown over that goal line, kicking the ball through the opponent's goal posts or tackling an opposing ball carrier in his own end zone.

Seems as though people aren't confused about the name American Football, yet it's played overseas.

But they aren't delusional about taking over the world lol.

Feebles and fumbles could be another good name for AFL.

I'd put in Vic ... bal, but the sooks outlawed that.

As. My post showed, the name doesn't have to change, just as American football is still in context when use to describe this sport when played internationally.

The OP is wrong as usual.
