Port Adelaide loses more than $3 million
Port Adelaide loses more than $3 million
Interesting read. Another significant AFL bailout
PORT Adelaide has blamed poor crowds for another horror financial result.
Port today announced an operating profit of almost $888,000 for 2011.
But after an AFL emergency loan and another $2.05 million grant from the SANFL are taken out, the club finished more than $3 million in the red.
“We suffered in 2011 through lower-than-expected AFL home ground crowds, which were impacted on by some scheduling issues together with our team’s on-field results,” president Brett Duncanson said.
“It highlights the need for our members and supporters to get along to our home games and support the team and at the same time help our club’s bottom line.”
In the past two weeks Port has lost both its major sponsors.

But Duncanson said the club was on the right path, with the figure even before grants an improvement on last year's $3.7 million loss.
“While the club continues to face challenges, it is confident in its future and the strategies it has in place to become financially strong and independent once its home games are played at Adelaide Oval,” Duncanson said.
Port spent $14.7 million on its football department in 2011, more than $4 million less than premier Geelong.

Re: Port Adelaide loses more than $3 million
Port Adelaide is a complex club. Trying to put this over as a bad thing is diverting attention from the bigger issues most NRL clubs have. So they made a net loss. So what? How many NRL clubs can say they have an operating profit than can service such a debt?
Rugby League has a lying culture. Altering crowd figures, relying on inaccurate TV figures from regional NSW and refusing to distance itself from Leagues Clubs and obtain it's own club memberships as it relies on LC's to survive as private entities.

Re: Port Adelaide loses more than $3 million
So take all grants/handouts (whatever you want to call them) away from NRL clubs and you have what?
One example... Melbourne Storm running at a loss annually of over $11 milllion when you take out the NRL/News Ltd handout. Do we need to go further?

Melbourne Storm lose annually over $11 million. Never once in thier history have they posted a profit. I've no doubt they are far from alone in being financial basketcases of the NRL.

This is after all the other grants they normally get from the AFL, before you go dribbling about the storm. Yes I can see they posted a false profit, thats the point. You have been lisening to Princess Dribbler to much Beaussie, get back on your a game will you
