No that is not what happened. The Bears took over Fitzroy because they were strong enough to do so. If they hadn't been strong enough they wouldn't have been able to carry it off.

NRL chief executive David Gallop has declared on the eve of the annual conference that rugby league should feel confident about its battle with the AFL for western Sydney.

The issue is sure to be high on the agenda when the two-day summit at Homebush starts this morning - less than a week after the AFL held its national draft in the same precinct, home of the GWS Giants.

The arrogance is coming from the NRL leadership, and it will cost them unless they knuckle down and accept that they aren't doing enough to compete in the 21st century.
