Rugby League "a culture to despise"

Post by Beaussie »

Classy stuff isn't it from the NRL. Kicking a woman repeatedly in the head and pulling her hair. Disgraceful.

As Patrick Smith once wrote in The Australian:

“Anybody who dares suggest that rugby league is not a culture to despise, then they are just as stupid and boorish as the offending players”
http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/co ... 70,00.html

League star 'kicked partner's head'
Adrian Proszenko and Eamonn Duff
October 23, 2011 .

NRL player Robert Lui repeatedly kicked his partner in the head after Mad Monday celebrations, police will allege when the Wests Tigers halfback fronts court this week.

The Sun-Herald has obtained the apprehended violence order issued against Lui after an incident involving Taleah Rae Backo at the couple's North Strathfield apartment on September 19.

According to the document, police allege Lui kicked Backo ''to the left temple area a number of times causing pain, bruising and swelling''.

Lui allegedly scaled the balcony of the second-floor unit at 7pm and knocked on the glass sliding door. Backo hid around the side of the door.

When she opened the door, Lui pushed her in the chest, causing her to fall backwards. Police allege the Tigers playmaker then pulled her hair, causing a small amount of hair to be removed along with a hair pin causing ''pain to the head area''.

It is alleged Lui then kicked Backo while she was on the ground, accusing her of sleeping with his cousin. Lui then dragged her towards the front door of the unit and told her to get out, the document alleges.

After walking outside to an area below the balcony, Backo called up for her wallet. After Lui refused, she called police.

When police arrived shortly afterwards, Lui was still on the balcony shouting abuse at Backo. When police asked to access the unit, they were told: ''No, f--- off.''

Police allege Lui changed his mind shortly afterwards and was arrested. When the allegation was put to him, Lui said: ''I didn't kick her, I headbutted her.''

Backo agreed to give police a video statement and to have her injuries photographed, which included bruising and swelling around the temple, approximately five by eight centimetres.

Lui stated he had consumed two cases of Vodka Cruisers - each containing 24 x 375ml bottles with an alcohol content of 4.8 per cent each - since Friday, September 16, after the Tigers were eliminated from the premiership race by the Warriors.

Lui was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and granted bail. He agreed to the terms of the AVO, which prevents any contact between the pair without prior agreement through legal representatives.

The matter is set to return to Burwood Local Court on Thursday.

The Sun-Herald contacted Lui's manager, Mark Stewart, yesterday, but he did not return calls. The Tigers have stood down the halfback from all club duties pending the outcome of court proceedings.

Last year, Backo reported a domestic assault and Lui was charged. The matter was dismissed in court after Backo changed her story.

In August, there was a report of a verbal argument between the two, but no offence was handed down.

Hmm a terrible case of domestic violence, which really is for the courts to settle and has little to do with the game of rugby league. Lui obviously had far too much to drink and has his own problems as well as relationship issues which are always of a personal nature and outside of any sporting code.

This is just a sad case and cant be titled in the way beaussie has. It is not really even a post season disgrace as Lui was not with team mates when it all occurred. Poor form beaussie. The AFL still leads the post seasons shameful events.

yes this is a disgraceful act by a person not fit to play our game

the Tigers have indicated regardless of the outcome of the court case .... Lui is finished at that club
& the NRL would be waiting for a gulity finding in said case to de-register him for season 2012

that said............ there are multiple cases similar ... or worse in the AFL
& in many cases .. the flogball scum in these incidents got off nearly scott free

wheres the righteous indignation from the Australian news paper about these acts by these giggleball low lifes ?
these a.. hole red wine swilling lefty pinko jurno filth pick n choose which disgraces they put up as stories ... always sticking the boot into RL
& conveniently leaving out the horror stories associated with AFL players

it seems I may have to bring these incidents to light , if the Australian won't ... & make sure talking footy's readers get the full picture about violence against women by footballers ... not half of it as beaussie would prefer

a new thread will be started ......... & it will a very long one indeed

Stop making excuses or deflections for this disgraceful behaviour that is all too common in the NRL. The code, players and even the fans it seems show no respect for women. Again as Patrick Smith once wrote:

of scum like behaviour from AFL players .... utterly disgraceful behaviour , often hidden & covered up
& then step down from your soap box you complete hypocrite

I'd wager the AFL has a bigger problem then the NRL
but the press ... its moronic fans .... & its players refuse to accept this fact of having a huge problem

Haven't heard of any AFL players repeatedly kicking women in the head and pulling them by the hair. No sunshine, that kind of disgraceful behaviour is limited to the NRL.

I find it funny how when an NRL player does something wrong the NRL supporters on here detach it from their sport saying its not to do with the rl, but if its an AFL disgrace its the game of AFL and all involved that is to blame! ;-D

Do you read your own posts? I think you have the biggest trouble out of anyone excepting the facts when something goes wrong with your code. You always try twisting what other people say to make your side of things look right. Even the king E will except when the NRL does something wrong but you know when the AFL has a discretion he will give it back twice as much! Atleast some people have the nuts to admit theres problems in their code not just reading a post about NRL and saying the AFL are so much worse!
But hey dont worry little raider mate if things get a little to tough you've always got your ratings to fall back on. LoL

like I said
look in your own back yard before looking anywhere else & keep your lectures to yourself

............ to do anything else makes a you a hypocrite of the highest order
AFL fans have an afliction of not accepting their codes own faults before pointing out everyone elses .... they need to be called on it every time they open their big fat mouths
& i'm just the person to do it ...

So here is how it works in the NRL. You bash your girlfriend, repeatedly kicking her in the head and pulling her by the hair and you end up getting a new contract and are talked up as having a whole career ahead of you at your new club. What a disgusting code. Apparently however, it can all be put down to one having lived in Sydney. #-o

SO the pieces fall into place perfectly.

The Cowboys last night finally confirmed Lui would be moving home next season on a two-year deal after the troubled playmaker was released from the final year of his contract with the Tigers.

The talented playmaker's career had been in limbo since he was stood down by the Tigers after being charged with assaulting his girlfriend in October.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charge and will reappear in court on December 9.

Cowboys football manager Peter Parr was reluctant to speak about Lui's pending court hearing but said he was confident that returning to north Queensland would be a positive move for Lui's career.

"Absolutely, everybody agrees on that," Parr said. "Certainly everyone in our club and Rob and his parents think that will be the case. To come back here where he spent his childhood and back with immediate family and other close family members, that will be very beneficial for him.

"It was not so much about living in Sydney but being away from family and lack of family network and support and things like that. They are so vital to young people.

"You have to remember he is still only 21.

"Robert virtually has his whole career ahead of him and we'll be welcoming him into a solid playing group that will provide leadership and support."

Lui was born and bred in north Queensland and is best mates with Cowboys five-eighth Ray Thompson.

The two will now fight it out to partner Johnathan Thurston in the halves next season, although an option would be to move Thompson to hooker to accommodate Lui's arrival.

Yeah right, the NRL just pretends there is no issue. Sign a new contract and move on to a new club is the NRL way of thinking... hoping of course the issue will go away.
