14... YES... 14 of the 16 NRL clubs are financial basketcases.
We can now clearly see why pokie reforms have the NRL and it's clubs in a state of panic. Just 2 clubs in the entire NRL competition actually break even. What a joke of a sport, relying on pokie revenue from the poorest in our society to stay afloat.
Death to the NRL.
Clubs in fight for bigger slice of NRL's TV pie

The clubs, most of which run at a loss, want funding guarantees included in their membership agreements, the current versions of which expire in a matter of weeks. The clubs are expected to roll over their agreements for next season before signing new agreements for 2013 and beyond.
The financial state of NRL clubs is **** the most serious. As many as 14 clubs run at a loss, surviving on hand-outs from their leagues clubs. The clubs see the answer to their problems lying in the distribution of funding when the new broadcasting deal is struck.

Pokie reforms spell the end of the NRL. What can they fallback on, crowds? NO, tv rights? NO, memberships? NO, sponsorships? NO. They're fucked.

Lions
Swans
Essendon
Port Adelaide
North Melbourne
Western Bulldogs
Melbourne
Richmond
all losing money & some of these needing AFL assistance to keep the doors open
Suns
GWS
won't see a profit for 15 years ... probably ever
the rest barely finishing in the black
& the threat of a strike by players next year because they want even more money ... to put a further strain on the AFL's finances
I'd be more concerned about flogball
how does a club turnover 35 Million dollars
yet only make a profit equal to that of the local fish n chip shop
only in the AFL

Lions and Swans are both assets rich so no real issues there. Essendon and Richmond???? you've clearly got no idea what you're talking about. The others in your list are guranteed support based on an equalisation policy that is designed to ensure all clubs are financially secure and competitive. Another policy you throwball fans could learn from us.
Our record broadcast rights money is already banked. Not to mention our growing future fund gaining more and more interest daily. You lot on the other hand are hoping and praying that history will not repeat itself. You ought to be very concerned throwball fans. And don't forget your players are demanding more along with pokie reforms that will destroy 14 of your 16 clubs financially. Dreadful prospects I know. :<>

Was just thinking, there is no doubt all our throwball friends here have clubs **** the 14 that run at a loss. Poor buggers, imagine the finances of the Raiders who's major sponsor is the local pub? Oh dear, scary thought isn't it. Hahahaha

the Raiders actually have more net assets then Essendon
they own 10 licensed premises .... 4 of these they own the buildings
they own land in the centre of the city ... Rugby League Park Braddon , & it is worth a fortune
& their training facility at Bruce .. is state of the art , they own this too
&
they didn't lose 1.5 Million dollars last year either
so what was your point again
