Maybe he is, but it is one of those things that AFL types brought up as an issue and were repeatedly shot down for back in the day.

Its something that also affects NRL regions more than AFL ones.

Lack of Kayo data for either code is kind of driving me mental at the moment
Yes, one would think the data for the streaming and PTV channels would be very accurate and easy to produce as”they” know who is watching…hell half the time I think “they” are listening as well.

Wookie, can you confirm this - I thought Fox used people meters as well - they don't know exact numbers?
How do you think they put on their sites and send you emails…perhaps you’d like to watch this?

How do they know that people are watching and sharing their logins…
And for that matter how do they know that you have exceeded the number of screens that you have paid for? Or what you have watched, completely or partly. How do they know to restrict your access to channels you have not paid for?
Because it is based on your login, whether you do it each time or its open, they know. And keep records.

It is their business.

Yeah - I get that - but that would be more algorithm - plus I don't get that on Fox re: suggestions to watch. I thought they used people metres as well just like OzTam etc. I remember looking this up - I did not think the numbers they posted (Fox) were exact numbers. Stay tuned.

OzTAM tracks people watching subscription television through 2120 homes in metropolitan and regional Australia. The panel tracks the consumption of popular shows such as The Last of Us and The White Lotus, or the first round of the NRL, on a Foxtel IQ box, online video service Foxtel Now or Kayo Sports. A separate measurement system – VPM – also tracks Foxtel’s audiences on Kayo Sports and Binge. Foxtel also uses internal data to measure streaming consumption.

I think the highlighted part states they use people metres. Think about- knowing a channel is being shown tells you only that - a people metre, as used by Oz tam to estimate ratings for both fta and fox tv allows the recording of how many watching, their age and other demographics, and also prompts for a response to see if you are still watching (and tv simply not playing with no one watching).

Yeah - I get that - but you were wrong te: how ratings are collected. A people metre is used.

I was not wrong..a people metre is used for oztam…foxtel and the other streaming PTVs collect their own data and do not publish it…which is what I said in the first place.

Fox do use a very similar system to the Nielson one, but its not fully integrated.Something to do with streamotions (kayo/binge) sound not getting picked up by the metering.

My bad- I thought you inferred that there figured for rating were precise as they know everyone was is watching. They know when a TV channel msy be on possibly but not the viewership. Glad we cleared that up.

I agree that the streaming and ptv providers do not know how many are watching, or the demographics, well not yet anyway, but it could reasonably be assumed if a device is tuned to a specific program, such as football, someone is watching.

It would be interesting to see the household figures and pubs and clubs etc, separately.

Prime time on Channel 9 with no AFL to compete with and yet a paltry 58,000 Melbourne viewers tuned in. Awfully embarrassing for a code that calls itself national.
