It is National enough for you and me.
Consider the following.
Very strong competitions and participation numbers all over Australia.
Local Sydney metropolitan league over 100 years of history Local competitions in many other areas of NSW also been a big part of the community and strongly supported especially in the Riverina , Murray and far south coast.
Even in Newcastle , the competition is of a reasonable standard.
Ditto for Qld, many well supported community based competitions.

Cannot deny the AFL is a national competition just because TV viewing statistics in some states are only modest.
and
can't outrate the simpsons in NSW , the ACT & QLD on TV 8-[

      :(/ :(/ :(/ :(/ :(/
National sports & what they look like

the USA has 2.. gridiron & baseball , popular from coast to coast
soccer in England
Ice Hockey in Canada

would the ESL ever be on a secondary TV ch in London ?
the NFL in New York ?
NHL in Toronto ?

but
this silly little bumbling abortion from Vicderpia 40 years after its had teams in Sydney & Brisbane , still ... isn't popular enough to be shown on main channels     :(/ :(/ :(/

its as much a national sport as tiddly winx
33 US states do not have a MLB team.
28 US states do not have an NFL team.

More the half of the US is not represented by their “National Sport.

A bit like the NRL in Oz.
yea

That is not accurate.
“Every”

Thursday night games will only be shown on prime ptv, no fta.
1 Monday game per week is on ESPN.
Several games in several cities are only available on peacock and/or paramount, not fta.
(Unlike Australia the games are shared between networks)
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.

Most Thursday night games will only be shown on prime ptv, no fta.
Monday night games are primarily shown on ESPN, no fta when only 1 game is played.

And in the first week of NFL broadcast:
On the Sunday:
8 games start at the same time.
6 games start at the same time.
Games shared between Fox and CBS.(P/STV)
A bit hard to have all those games on the 2 primary channels all at once.
How are they all shown on the Primary channel at the same time?
1 stand alone Sunday game (time wise) game is broadcast on ESPN.
Most Thursday night games will only be shown on prime ptv, no fta.
Monday night games are primarily shown on ESPN, no fta when only 1 game is played, which is most Mondays.

When the relevant local tv schedules, New York perhaps, week 2 perhaps, I will examine and report.
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.

I did not mention MLB, but as their season is currently under way, I did look up this Weekends
TV schedule.

Your “every game on a premier carrier”, should read “hardly any games on a premier carrier”.
It is apparent that you do not think before you speak but at least you should look before you think.

Since broadcast baseball has largely gone the way of the Sunday doubleheader, there are few options for watching any game without a subscription of one kind or another. The Fox network, however, can still be had for free with a good indoor antenna. That will give you access to a bunch of nationally broadcast Saturday-afternoon games.
and the only way to get Friday night games–is to sign up for a subscription to Apple TV+. That costs $6.99 per month, but it gets you to a wide array of other streaming entertainment, including hit shows like the soccer-themed Ted Lasso, the sci-fi series For All Mankind, and the mind-bending Severance. Apple TV+ is probably an option only for fans who need to see every single game, but at least it doesn’t cost a lot.

says the deluded fumbler
You need to contact the US networks and tell them their tv guides are wrong because you know better.
you mean tell them they're secondary channels , when they're not ? 8-[
you stupid fumbling twat      :(/ :(/ :(/ :(/
Again you are demonstrably wrong, but cannot admit it.
Most others here may be correct in their view that you are not worth replying to.
I might join them……I just hate ignoring stupidity and ignorance, but since you cannot possibly believe half the crap you come out with, your posts only purpose can be to irritate, annoy and outrage normal posters and responding to such crap can only fill some unbalanced need you have…you are one sick and strange puppy.
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.
