Trying to put over State of Origin ratings as indicative of the strength of the NRL is a foolish and unsustainable argument. The fact that they were beaten so convincingly in Melbourne by a cooking program is rather more indicative.

the Word " Rugby League " was first used in Australia in 1908
the English didn't start calling it Rugby League til 1922

these 2 games had a lot of differences til the rules were aligned in 1922
