Yes folks its the boring and irrelevant NRL State of Origin time again. Am sure the television ratings will be 'huge' in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth for this one...NOT

TV ratings in Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Hobart/Tasmania will certainly be interesting tomorrow. Has Rugby League's State of Origin got nationwide appeal. NOT A CHANCE!!!

Post it up when you can beaussie. I'm interested to see the results and going off my travels during the origin period I'd have to say you will be disappointed. Pubs and clubs all over Alice Springs, Townsville, and Darwin shamelessly and proudly advertised origin night as something to attend. It was def a sign of appreciation. And all in areas you seem to feel are 'AFL Heartland'...

The beachside pub in nightcliff, Darwin, even had a massive (about 10metre) screen constructed outside the pub in the park leading onto the beach. you had to buy tickets to actually view and get into the pub for the match!

Origin is something to behold in this nation, a pure gem of sporting brilliance. Something I wish the AFL could emanate. I guess the blockbusters in melbourne are pretty good and I'm looking forward to seeing one next year but in terms of national appeal they would pale in comparison to SOO.

:)

It should be pointed out the thugby needs the SOO to make ends meet. Club matches aren't competing with the AFL after all!

Oh we have a choice. And we choose not to because we don't need it. If there's any envy about, it's NRL envy for our way superior attendance average. More than double.

but where has that got you in NSW & QLD ?
if you think your present comp ... by itself will do the job .. despite it being hardly any closer after 30 years & heading backward rapidly
then you are delusional
you need something else .. another vehicle to promote yr sport up here .. & while your snoringly boring comp may be all you need in the AFL states
it will never be enough up here

Oh boy - I'll repeat this again.

The NRL average attendance is BELOW that of all three AFL teams in NSW and QLD. Let alone the entire AFL comp.

That says clearly that the present comp is doing the job by itself. To say otherwise is ignoring the facts.

Much bigger AFL crowds and membership numbers in Sydney than the NRL clubs. Also the case in QLD for the AFL on the Gold Coast.

I don't even remember now, but it had to be another personal attack because there would have been no other reason. The fact that I deleted it rather than edited it indicates that your response was not reasonable.
