Indigenous All-Stars to play in Darwin AGAIN!

I am getting sick to death of the AFL always having these Indigenous All-Stars games in Darwin....why the hell is it always there?
Am sure there is strong interest in this team playing in other cites such as Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth or Sydney.
I would like to see the All Stars play Port or the Cows as am sure the Ca Swannie supporters would like to see their team play against them.
It looks like the AFL has this attitude that the only Indigneous people is in the NT and Darwin! This sucks! We shoudl write a letter to the AFL and put a stop to this Darwin bias!
Indigenous team to play Essendon
December 21, 2006
An Indigenous All-Stars team will play Essendon in a pre-season AFL match in Darwin in February.
Former Brisbane and Footscray star Michael McLean will coach the indigenous side for the third time in what has become an annual fixture against an AFL club.
AFL Northern Territory chief executive Tony Frawley said the match was vital in building interest in the sport in the territory.
"With four indigenous players drafted to AFL clubs from the Northern Territory this year alone and a further two listed as rookies, the All-Stars game will continue to inspire young indigenous people to pursue their dreams," Frawley said.
While indigenous people make up only 2.2 per cent of Australia's population, they make up about 12 per cent of AFL players.
The indigenous ranks in the AFL were boosted with the drafting of a record 15 indigenous players in the recent national draft.
The match will be played on February 9 at TIO Stadium, preceded by a curtain-raiser between an Australian indigenous youth team and the South African under 19s.

I see where you're coming from Grim and it would be good to see this annual match move around from city to city but one must remember that Darwin starved footy fans only get this game, a Wizard Cup game and one home and away from memory, it doesn't bother me much that the NT keeps this game. Will be a definite sellout at least up there.

Agreed BeAussie, maybe an alternative is to have the Indigenous All-Stars have a team in the Wizard Cup only then that way they do get to play in the various cities.

Anyone know if Alwyn Davey from the Bombers is any relation to Aaron Davey from the Dees?

The 2007 Indigenous All Stars game against Essendon is to be broadcast live on ABC television and the National Indigenous Radio Network (NIRS).
AFL Chief Broadcasting and Commercial Officer Gillon McLachlan said the AFL was delighted that ABC TV and the NIRS had committed to taking the third All Stars match, to be played on Friday 9 February, to the widest possible audience.
The ABC will broadcast the game through the Northern Territory on its main channel from 11:30pm local time and also provide a live national broadcast on ABC2, its free to air digital channel from 7:00pm local time.
In addition, ABC radio will provide a full call of the last quarter of the match once the cricket one-day international broadcast has concluded.
NIRS Radio will broadcast the game live in full from 6.30pm to 9.30pm local time (8pm to 11pm AEST) with the broadcast to be fed live through AFL.com.au for those listening via the internet.
Former Essendon and Port Adelaide star Gavin Wanganeen, the first and so far only Indigenous player in the history of the game to reach 300 AFL matches, will make his broadcasting debut as part of the NIRS call team.
"The All Stars game is a celebration of the marvellous talent that Indigenous footballers have brought to the AFL and we are delighted that ABC television and the NIRS will take this match, particularly to so many people across northern Australia in remote communities," McLachlan said.
A curtain-raiser match will be played between the Qantas AFL Indigenous Youth Team and the South African Youth Team.
The All-stars match will start at 7.05pm local time (8.35pm AEST) at TIO Stadium in Darwin.

No O'Loughlin or Goodes in the All-Stars line up. Damn I'm feeling a little uneasy about the $100 bet I placed on the All-Stars now.
