Sydney AFL ratings continue to be a joke

Post by Willis 21 »

As I keep saying, sell your Seven and 10 shares now!!!

They have bought themselves an overpriced lemon with the AFL coverage...

Despite a premiership, the Swans are still a "no one cares enough to watch" proposition

Their biggest game of the year drew 123,000 viewers on Sat night...

http://blogs.smh.com.au/entertainment/a ... l#comments
Tribal Mind replies: Something called Saturday night AFL on Ten got 123,000 in Sydney and 419,000 in Melbourne.
Sell Sell SELL!!!!!

You take as fact what someone has posted on a fourm?

How about some real facts:
Off the back of the Swans' premiership success, Sydneysiders have been enthusiastically tuning into AFL.

In Sydney, weekly average viewing of the eight games is up 31 per cent on last year's figure to round four, and the weekly free-to-air audience is up 25 per cent.

Yes.. I take the comments from the author of the blog that specialises on TV ratings for SMH as fact....

I know that you do as well...

On LU we have already queried the AFL paid for propaganda piece this week in the Murdoch press that you have quoted above..

The timing makes you wonder doesn't it??

Its OK advertisers..despite the Swans getting only 123,000 for their biggest game of the season last week, its actually a 31% improvement...  ... everything is fine with the AFL ratings in Sydney..

Spin, spin, spin...

Do you think the State of Origin in Melbourne will get more than 123,000 people??

Clearly Sydney's style of play has not won many fans in the Harbour City - people just don't warm to teams playing negatively and trying to shut a game down.

Interestlingly, Roos' tactics have not only forced viewers to tune out, but also sees them not showing up to games.

Last weekend's game against Fremantle was played in front of the smallest crowd of the AFL that round - even lower than cellar dwellers Essendon -v- North Melbourne (16th -v- 14th) and Brisbane -v- Carlton (13th -v- 15th).

How can that be explained except that the Swans have failed to attract real support in Sydney? AFL will never get a foothold there - face facts Beaussie!

Is that so. Hmm, where did that 1 million+ audience come from on the last day of September last year. I guess all those viewers in NSW were tuning in to see the West Coast Eagles defeat the NSW team.

That smallest crowd for the round you talk of was 2nd only to Brisbane for an away crowd for the Dockers. Sydney and Brisbane have attracted more fans to their games against the Dockers than any other team in the AFL bar West Coast (local derby). Funny that NSW and QLD provide larger crowds than VIC, TAS and SA for the Dockers eh?

Good sidestep Beaussie - but you cannot evade the following facts:-

1. Swans home crowd on the weekend was the lowest of the round (I actually wonder if this has ever occurred before in AFL's history :?: - the premiers having the lowest crowd of the round??? I reckon it is unlikely unless it was played outside of their normal home ground, i.e. Manuka); and

2. People will tune into a Grand Final especially if they are geographically attached to the team playing (it's called "bandwagoning" - your second name at League Unlimited :P) but that doesn't equate to real support - especially when things go awry with the team as is happening with the Lions and the Swans to a smaller degree at the moment.

Where are these Sydney newly won AFL fans Beaussie?

Let's not forget those 60,000+ fans at Telstra Stadium in Sydney the week before which put all other games during the split round in WA, QLD, VIC and SA to shame.

You ask where are these newly won over AFL fans are and I say to you, check out the SCG crowd this Sunday and keep in mind the 60k I just mentioned from the week before - not to mention a 36% increase in TV audiences in Sydney.

Just thought i'd chime in with my thoughts. :)

Personally i think sydneysiders know squat about the game. I like to go to the games from time to time in my leather jacket and italian loafers, and to tell you the truth i quite enjoy sitting their sipping chardy's and enjoying the spectacle. But the thing that upsets me is everyone around me wherever i sit seem to know jack diddly about the game. To me they seem more interested in stuffing themselves with chips and other assortments, and chit chatting about their weekends rather than actually watch and understand the game.

It is a shame but you gotta say its funny.

And, oh yeah, beaussie wasn't one of the 20 odd thousand attending the freo game last week. He had a tummy ache.

I only speak truth.

I love how AFL types point to the 60,000 who show up for the Collingwood game as a barometer of interest for the Swans, but dismiss the 24,000 who show up to the Freo game...

The same Sydney Swans team played in both games a week apart didn't they??

Maybe its an argument that 36,000 Collingwood fans either live in Sydney and attended the game, of came from interstate....

Or was there a food poisining bug going around that layed up 36,000 people like Beaussie??

Sounds a bit like your footy career this season in Sydney. When was the last time you attended training or played a game in the 4s? Exactly how many games have you played this season? :?>

Hmm, Sydney league a bit to rough for you eh darlin? Or is it you've got an injury that just wont heal? Yeah. Meh

 Seems I've hit a soft spot!

Beaussie has also missed other games here in sydney town this season with the same tummy ache. To tell you the truth I dont know whether he follows the game or the ratings more.

KE's prophetic quote of the day: A man who cries wolf too often will always be upset by a tummy ache :\:

So how's that so-called footy injury coming along KE. How many weeks have you missed now. Nah scratch that, how many games in the 3s and 4s have you played this season?

Beaussie we are talking about AFL football here in this thread. In fact I see this as some sort of personal attack you're attempting here. Really as admin you must be aware that your past two posts dont even belong in this thread, let alone this forum #-o

Now getting back to the topic. Before the collingwood sydney match Beaussie told me the crowd was going to be 80,000 plus hence beating the state of origin crowd this year. He said all but 1000 tickets were sold...

Once again I actually believed him until reading this very thread where he claims 60000 odd for the game. Still confused :?

The only way I can explain it is The Man Who Cried Wolf has struck once again.

:blahblah: :^o
