Typical!!

Post by boof1978 »

Don't know about everyone else but I feel ripped off by the result last night. To go down in the last 8 seconds after totally dominating a match and having a little weed referee decide he's going to put his stamp on the game is just typical of the game of soccer. I am a big AFL fan and can now understand why soccer supporters are so passionate, how one little moment can decide if you go through to the next stage or are sitting there stunned with disbelief. But I also realise now why I wont be a true convert to soccer, because in reality your destiny is in the hands of the referee which is not the way it should work, a handball missed, a goal allowed, a red card, a foul in the box, all are very subjective and the decisions shouldnt be left to arrogant egomaniacs. I enjoyed the ride but I'm not converted.

I agree boof. I got caught up in all the hype of the Socceroos and their participation in the world cup but I'm still in disbelief that such an important game can be decided by a ref, a contentious decision and one goal. Like you boof, I enjoyed the ride but am hardly a new convert to the so called "world game".

The better team won on the night in my opinion. Australia struggles to finish their set plays and to tell you the truth their set plays never look all that dangerous. Italy dominated the first 25mins of the game, then it was even until their player got sent off for a penalty that could have gone either way just like the free kick in the dying moments.

Good to see the aussies have a good go at it though.
