As was to be expected. We always bomb out in the first round of the pre-season. Roos sees the games as a mere trial run for the youngsters. Good to see however that we weren't thrashed unlike the so called Power from Port.
Anyway, think back to last year when the same result occurred for the Swans. Didn't stop the us from going all the way in September to win the premiership. :P

I knew it was basically a trial so I didn't bother travelling down. Am bloody happy I didn't. It was a TERRIBLE spectacle. Actually it was so bad it was embarrassing having it on the TV for everyone to see.
Still, I trust Roosey. We are well over a month behind other clubs in their pre-season preparation., and generally do not peak until June or July anyway.

Agreed that it would have been a waste of time going down to Canberra and expecting a victory in such a trial, particularly when Roos like many coaches doesn't take the pre-season comp seriously.JF_Bay22_SCG wrote:I knew it was basically a trial so I didn't bother travelling down. Yeah I'm with you JF. You'll remember my hissy fit last year after the Wizard Cup loss.JF_Bay22_SCG wrote:Still, I trust Roosey. We are well over a month behind other clubs in their pre-season preparation., and generally do not peak until June or July anyway.

Makes you wonder why the AFL bothers with the pre-season comp when most clubs don't seem to take it at all seriously.
Sure there is good prize money on offer and it's a good opportunity to take the game to places that don't get to see footy regularly, but imo the games are not at all entertaining, particularly all the new rules brought in each year.

Perhaps that's why the crowds for the NAB Cup are down this year when compared with last year.
Persoanlly, I'd prefer to see an extended H&A season. Get rid of the pre-season comp I reckon.

What do you think about a possible AFL team representing Cairns and Darwin with home games split between the cities. The Northern Crocodiles perhaps? Corporate sponsorship may be a problem.
I've read Cazaly's Stadium is the best sports venue in Cairns. Strong Australian Football local league in Cairns too I hear.
