Everything you say may be true - my concern is that playing in Canberra detracts from the brand it is meant to be - a side for West Sydney people. I don't know the answer but I do believe that playing in Canberra hurts GWS in building a brand in their supposed heartland area. and in connecting with the people from there. For the AFL to be spruiking long-term this and long-term that - playing in Canberra seems very short-sighted.

I don't think they are going anywhere - but agree that they need to focus on connecting with the community more - no point winning if no one cares you win. They just need to find a way to get, at least, a reasonable niche market.

Homebush was the correct decision, it's central to a large area of Western Sydney.
Looking at the map Blacktown is very far out in north west direction and not as easy for fans to commute. Blacktown Giants sounds terrible and would not win any fans.

How is Canberra Western Sydney though? It just shows AFL still needs GWS to play in another city because they have no fan base in one of the most populated areas in Australia.

Western Sydney have a bigger population to cover than every single other AFL clubs supporter zone. Yet they still have to play in another large city like Canberra to be financially viable.

That really says something about AFLs supporter base there.

Yeah - it’s a good question. Maybe they just have to wear the small crowds (he’ll NRL had been doing it for years)). If it is 4 weeks as you say that’s only 2 home game - so maybe they play one against the Swams at Accor so we’re only taking about 1 game - which they could play 2 consecutive weeks away maybe.

Yeah - it’s a good question. Maybe they just have to wear the small crowds (he’ll NRL had been doing it for years)). If it is 4 weeks as you say that’s only 2 home game - so maybe they play one against the Swams at Accor so we’re only taking about 1 game - which they could play 2 consecutive weeks away maybe.

The Ginats actually play 8 games away from No Name Stadium. They played Norf on 16 March and do not return until they play Footscry on 18 May. That's 8 games away from their nominal 'home'. During that time they play 2 games at Manuka. So they are invisible in their 'home' area for 2 whole months of the season. Tell me that's a good way to build your following??????????

Their actual contractual arrangements are that they vacate No Name stadium for the cattle parades for 2 weeks before the cows arrive, the two weeks of the parades and a further 2 weeks to clean up the .......ummmmmmm.........mess.......left behind lolololololololol!!!!!

Yep. They've never really dedicated themselves to the real greater western Sydney region. The folk that live out there know that. Hence the pathetic crowds.

But its actually worse than that. It sends a terrible message to their playing group. 99% of whom are interstaters. They have no clue who they're playing for or representing. The players mostly live in the inner west affluent suburbs. They travel to the 'west' at Homebush for training and games.

These areas have zero compatibility with the outer western suburbs this mess is supposed to represent. And then they send 'em off to play in their 'second' home area Canberra. I mean you can't make this shit up. Canberra is the only joint in the land more detached from the outer west than Breakfast Point. So they send 'em there lolololololololoololol!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This second team needs to embrace potential fans from all over Sydney, North, South, and West and play at a renamed Giants stadium.

They identify from their particular suburb in GWS.
GWS is a manufactured identity that belongs on streetmaps.
